i was looking for people who i thought were exceedingly competent, or had exceptional leadership skills - or in some cases, people who were well above average in both. i didn't choose anyone who i thought only had average competence (this hurt someone like john edwards) and below average leadership ability (this hurt someone like Feingold, in my book, though i realize that would be hotly contested on this website)
