I really was wrong, way wrong... Lamont LEADS Lieberman.
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 06:01 AM by nickshepDEM
In the Connecticut U.S. Senate race, Ned Lamont (D) has surged ahead of Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) and now holds a razor-thin 51% to 47% lead among likely Democratic primary voters, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

In possible general election matchups:

* Lieberman defeats Republican challenger Alan Schlesinger 68% to 15%
* Lamont beats Schlesinger 45% to 22%, with 24% undecided
* Running as an independent, Lieberman gets 51%, to 27% for Lamont and 9% for Schlesinger.

5. I never thoight I would see this either, nickshepDEM
I think you and I posted in the same threads that Lieberman would win the primary handily.

But I do have a good excuse. I tend to assume bare minimal campaign competence from a three term senator.

6. You are correct. This is the first time he has
really had to fight for his seat and like many others I really don't think he took Lamont seriously. He was totally unprepared. Plus, he never spends much time in CT so he really has no clue how residents really feel. He has just taken his seat too much for granted.

8. And as much as I don't like Joe..
.... he's not the only senator, or only Dem senator, that has lost touch with his constituents.

Maybe this will be a wake up call for the lot of them

9. Well, you are right but I think he is the only one
that has so openly kissed up to the bush administration and so openly bashed members of his own party. He was nasty as could be to Lamont in the debate. Yet he couldn't have kissed up more to Cheney when they debated. He seems to want more the approval of Republicans than of Democrats. I don't know how this will turn out in the end, but he does not deserve to be reelected, imo.

11. Oh I agree...
... and part of the reason he did that was that he lost touch with what his contituents wanted of him, IMHO.

He took on the mindset that nobody was watching, that he could do whatever he liked. Guess what Senators and Congresspersons, you work for the people and we CAN AND WILL FIRE YOU.

16. he should have and he would have
if he weren't such a fuck up. For someone who has run as often as he as (sometimes two races at a time!), he sure is running a lousy campaign.

Trying to hedge his bets and qualify as an "independent" sealed it for him. If he'd shown some integrity and announced he'd support the winner of the primary, he probably would have won.

13. thanks for the admission, classy thing to do!
I will not gloat, but merely point out that I said many months ago in a DLC thread that the DLC was out of touch with the current dissatisfaction with business as usual and "centrist" viewpoints. At the very least, I hope ALL representatives take heed and start listening to their employers again.

15. His anouncement that he would go indie is killin him...
It was either the dumbest political move of the year...

Or this was his strategy all along...so he could go indie.

17. Lamont is comming on strong, He is a hard worker.

Lamont is just working the democrats, he will go state wide and smash all the others down. Leiberman will get some sympathy votes from independents and repbulicans.

21. Joe's numbers began way ahead of Lamont. Lamont surged. Now
Joe trails Ned.

As an indy Joe does well.

For now.

The pattern doesn't look good for Joe's side, though.

Go, Ned.
