9. Perhaps ... if this were LBN ......
..... but here in a discussion forum, I'll edit to put my own point at the fore.

Fact: Marines are on the ground in Lebanon and I have NO trust in this administration to do the right thing and call it a day.

4. Shit. The last time the Marines were there was a total disaster
which resulted in the deaths of over 200 Marines in the barracks bombing and the subsequent US invasion of a tiny island nation on the other side of the globe from Lebanon and the killing of many innocent citizens of the island with bombs.

Those who forget history (or ignore it) are doomed to repeat it...watch out tiny island nations and South American democracies.

8. Grenada was invaded to rescue Americans
Would you have preferred that those students were not rescued?

10. They did not need or necessarily want to be "rescued."
The US invasion was dangerous to the innocent Grenadians who were bombed by the US military.

I have many Grenadian friends, including some who have been or who are Commonwealth officials appointed by QEII, doctors, teachers and participants in the revolution as well as Anglican church leaders and businessmen. One of my friend's brother was a members of the former Bishop lead post-Eric Gairy government. He has been in jail since 1983. Amnesty International has protested the illegal US Gov't. organized trial of the Grenada 17, death sentences for 15 of the Grenada 17 (later commuted to life right before they were scheduled to be hanged) and unfair continued imprisonment of 16 of the 17. (Phyllis Coard was released for cancer treatment not available in Grenada but the other prisoners with cancer and health issues have not been afforded the same humane treatment.)

The story of the Revo and the US invasion is complicated. There are many different opinions and political views among Grenadians themselves. The Grenadian-US relationship is close and complicated. Many tens of thousands of Grenadians live in the US, Canada and the UK. (Grenada is a commonwealth country.)

The students themselves have stated they were in no danger from anyone in Grenada.

There is an excellent web site called the Grenada Revolution Online by a historian named Ann Elizabeth Wilder. This web site's purpose is to explore, asks questions, provide many viewpoints and historical documents and critically analyze the history of Grenada, the Revo and post-Revo Grenada.

14. You're joking, right?
Just having fun with us.... tell me that you are. That is just a bunch of Republican propoganda.

You really believe we went into Grenada to rescue students? They would still be there if there was not an overriding reason the US gov't. needed to go in there.

12. I wonder if they realize they are being used as live bait?
All Hezbollah has to do now is kill a couple of American troops and we will be "justified" in unleashing hell on their heads, or allowing Israel to do it for us.... gawdhelpus.
