Wait a f'ing minute! Is Clinton's endorsement of Joe a "kiss"...of DEATH?
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 08:19 AM by iconoclastic cat
Okay, so Bill Clinton may be coming to endorse Joe Lieberman. There is plenty of analysis out there, so I won't dissect it, but here's the gist:

Former president to campaign for Lieberman

HARTFORD, Conn. -- One of the Democratic Party's biggest guns, former President Bill Clinton, is coming to Connecticut to campaign for Senator Joe Lieberman.

Clinton's visit, planned for July 24 in Waterbury, comes as a new Quinnpiac Poll shows Lieberman and his Democratic primary challenger, businessman Ned Lamont, in a statistical dead heat.

Lieberman's campaign has not yet revealed details of the planned visit.

The two politicians have known each other since Clinton worked on Lieberman's first campaign for state Senate in 1970.

Well, that sucks. Another kiss for Joe.

Or does it suck? Is this new smooch actually a bad thing?

Think about this idea for a second. The Repubs were floating the idea that Joe should go for the Repub nomination, but he just nixed that idea:
CT-SEN: It's Official -- Lieberman Rules Out Any Run On GOP Line

By Greg Sargent | bio
As I wrote below, Election Central posed a question this morning to the Lieberman campaign: Would he or would he not rule out a run on the GOP line if he lost the Dem primary and the line were offered to him?

Well, now campaign spokesperson Marion Steinfels has gotten back to me, and the answer is: He rules it out. Completely.

Steinfels said that Lieberman would "absolutely not" run on the GOP line. She added: "He has said he's always been a Democrat, and he'll always be a Democrat."

Asked if he'd rule out accepting the line, Steinfels said: "Joe Lieberman will never run as a Republican. Never."

This morning, Election Central posed the question in a phone call to campaign deputy press secretary Noah Kores. He said the campaign would get back to us, and we said we'd let you know when (or if) the campaign did.

Well, now it has, and their answer is: "Joe Lieberman will never run as a Republican. Never."

So there goes that. And if Joenertia goes back on that, too--well, he's hosed.

But then there's this thing with Bill Clinton. He's endorsing a guy who scolded him for boning an intern. Why? (Cue Bush: "The math doesn't work!)

Unless you consider that the Republicans are Joe's only real growth opportunity as far as support goes these days.

And which former president do the Republicans hate more than anyone?

Pucker up, Joe.

on edit: Okay, class, who took my little donor star? Not funny. That's is a guaranteed trip to the office.

2. So, disaffected repugs will vote for Lamont because they despise
anything or anyone having to do with Clinton? Am I getting warm, teach?

Whatever works!

6. Possibly. Or they'll just slink back to their holes.
It would be nice if Repubs voted for Lamont once or twice, but I'll settle for them simply paying attention to Schlesinger.

Oh, and then lose in November. That too.

3. I don't believe Clinton is trying to hurt his
adopted brothers (bush) favorite fan, as it appears Lieberman is. I think something smells.

No more of this bs for me thanks. Nope I don't think it's a stab in the back to Lieberman at all, I think it's a recommendation for Lieberman.

Go Lamont!

4. I don't care WHY Clinton's doing it...
or what effect it will have short or long-term. It S U C K S . And, it only confirms what I've been saying and feeling about Clinton for a long time -- He's DLC through-and-through, and always has been. He's pro-corporate and I don't care how good he is at making us think he feels our pain, he couldn't care LESS about the people. Nope, he's a pro-corporate hack supporting other pro-corporate hacks to further a pro-corporate agenda for America. F*ck Bill, f*ck Joe, and f*ck the DLC. I don't care who endorses Joe -- he's a DINO -- and he needs to go and be replaced by a real progressive, Liberal Democrat who cares about people, their jobs, their wages, and their dreams FIRST!

13. I am not an Optimist. I'm in my later fifties, and I'm fed up to my teeth
with this bullsh*t. I want my country and my Party back before I die. I've seen too much. I've been too politically involved for too long to have any optimism about what I am seeing now.

My heart is heavy... that's all I can say. So, if I am indeed paring down to the bare necessities (applying Occam's Razor as you say), it is out of a need to get through the bullsh*t and take one last stab before I just resign myself to ehatever happens.

9. So you don't recognize the smartest president in history...
guess the good times didn't go your way in the 90's ..Lot better out this way..gotta tell ya. Names and labels are ridiculous..brains would do the job. But then, if you find 4 letter words to your liking guess there is no contest.

15. I am sure the intent is to round up votes
for Lieberman from Democrats in the primary of course. The only thing is that I doubt that Democrats who have already made up their minds to vote for Lamont will switch because of anything Clinton says. Lamont's supporters are also more motivated for the primary and more organized so I guess we will have to see how many voters Clinton can round up for Joe, seeing that primary voting is notoriously low. This can end up being very risky for Lieberman should he lose in the primary. Let's just say that being endorsed by the person most hated by Republicans is not exactly going to get Republicans out in droves for him in Nov. if he runs as an Independent.

17. After how Lieberman stabbed Gore in the back over the "military votes"
counting in Florida...that Clinton would go stump for him is...well some kind of politics as usual. I guess Bill & Hillary are just "working together" these days hoping Bill gets another chance to clear his reputation.

I supported Bill Clinton throughout the whole Monica mess...but I wouldn't want him "co-President" and I'm bitter about what Lieberman did to Gore.

Enough of the Clintons. Some of Clinton's actions like going with NAFTA and more Media Deregulation with the '96 Telecom bill have caused huge suffering for many of us here and his "triangulation politics" hurt our Party so badly we may never recover from it. But, his nightmare legacy to me...is that we have Conservative/Corporate Media driving our country into ruin. It's not all his fault but he caved to the Repugs and Corporatist/Globalist ideas TOO MUCH... The few good things he did will always be overshadowed by the overwhelming consequences of what he allowed to go on. And that he couldn't ignore a gal who flashed a thong.
