Your suffering doesn't matter to them
Republicans love to boast about their president, President Bush, being consistent. He says what he means, they say, and he means what he says. His faith, which he conveniently found after his life hit rock bottom, is, to hear it, his guide. But above all else, he's consistent. And they may be right, as Wednesday's news proved. In vetoing legislation that had the potential to improve - and even save - lives, the president again proved his supporters right. He has been consistent. Bush has consistently supported pain. Consistently supported suffering. Consistently supported death.

But that's not all. When announcing his veto of the legislation, Bush said, "It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect", later adding "America must never abandon our fundamental morals." Bush, therefore, has also consistently been a hypocrite. And so has his party. Your suffering, after all, is their electoral gain. Your suffering excites their base. Your suffering doesn't matter to them.

You know what "crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect", Mr. President? Sending our armed forces into Iraq based on a pack of lies. Then, once they're there, denying them the proper equipment while serving them spoiled food and contaminated water. Then, once they return home - if they're lucky enough to return home - cutting their benefits while seeking to redefine what constitutes a "veteran" in order to further cut costs. Those things, to me, cross a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect.

You know what "crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect", Mr. President? Overseeing widespread human rights violations at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay. Operating secret prisons. Sending terror suspects for detention and interrogation to nations known for torturing prisoners. Using chemical weapons in Iraq while claiming at one point to have invaded the nation to prevent it from developing weapons of mass destruction. Looking the other way as a few bad apples turn their time in Iraq into a civilian killing spree, while the Pentagon relaxes recruitment guidelines so much so that the Southern Poverty Law Center has said that hate groups are infiltrating the military. Those things, to me, cross a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect.

You know what "crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect", Mr. President? Picking up a guitar while thousands died along the Gulf Coast. Then, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, using firemen as props instead of lifesavers. And claiming that "I don't think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees" despite the fact that the president was warned ahead of time - in grave terms - that disaster was fast approaching. Not only that, but also asking no questions and saying "We are fully prepared" during these briefings. Those things, to me, cross a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect.

You know what "crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect", Mr. President? Claiming to be a "compassionate conservative" and promoting a "culture of life" while, when you were governor of Texas, presiding over 131 executions. "I've said once and I've said a lot that in every case," you said, "we've adequately answered innocence or guilt." You added that defendants "had full access to the courts. They've had full access to a fair trial." How, Mr. President, do you square your statements with the fact that of those cases, 43 of the 131 defense attorneys were later disciplined or disbarred for their legal ineptitude. Some didn't even present evidence. This, to me, crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect.

You know what "crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect", Mr. President? Thanking your financial backers by putting many of them in high-ranking government positions. Positions with responsibility for, among other things, mine safety. Then, to further scratch the back of the energy industry that had so supported your campaigns, relaxing regulations and slashing budgets. What's more, looking the other way as violations rose at the Sago mine. I'm sure you remember what happened there, don't you, Mr. President? Those things, to me, cross a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect.

But this isn't about respecting moral boundaries is it, Mr. President? No, it's about pandering to your base, those stupid Americans who, in some cases, amount to a scant 3 percent. What's more, pandering to your base using arguments which not only don't hold water, but also aren't supported by a majority of Americans. At every turn - medicinal marijuana, forcing Americans to seek less expensive prescription drugs from Canada, end-of-life issues and now stem cell research - this administration has taken a pro-pain, pro-suffering, pro-death stance. And for what? Certainly not political expediency, as America isn't on the administration's side on this issue, as it isn't on so many others. In fact, the commercials this fall ought to write themselves. No, this was done to appease the extremist fringe that still manages to support this president. Congratulations, guys, your continued ignorance can remain responsible for continued suffering.

"If this bill would have become law, American taxpayers would, for the first time in our history, be compelled to fund the deliberate destruction of human embryos," Bush said Wednesday with his trademark smug arrogance. "And I'm not going to allow it." Tough talk from a president whose cowboy diplomacy has been silenced in the face of global events beyond his intelligence. Tough talk from a president whose administration just had its bluff called by North Korea. Tough talk from a president who is shirking his responsibilities as a global diplomat because he would rather attack Iran than work for peace. I suppose it's far easier to talk tough when those on the receiving end are innocent Americans. So, when you look around at the millions who could have benefited from government-sponsored stem cell research and who instead suffer, thank a Republican. Your suffering doesn't matter to them.

Al Sharpton said this in one of the debates in the 2004 Primaries and he hits the nail right on the head.

which is why the GOP/Right-wing conspiracy painted him as a nut-case. Same with Howard Dean.

4. Chimp crosses moral boundaries every single
day...every time an uninsured person dies from lack of medical care; every time a person on Medicare Part D ends up in the nightmare of the "donut hole" requiring that he pay his premiums while getting no benefits; every time a soldier is killed in Iraq because of his lies and incompetence; every time an innocent Iraqi is slaughtered in the civil war he created; every time he signs a bill making the rich richer and the corporations more powerful while shitting on the poor and middle class; every time a natural disaster occurs or a terrorist act is committed on American soil and he's too busy playing the guitar or reading a children's book to react; every time a school child is denied a first class education because of his budget cuts; every time a person's privacy is invaded with a warrentless wiretap; every time an investigation is blocked and wrongdoing swept under the carpet; every time he tells a bald faced lie -- he's crossing moral boundaries.

Hypocrisy that knows no bounds.

5. Tony Snow: "He (Bush) thinks murder is wrong"...Iraq?
Tony Snow, the White House Press Secretary, when explaining the Bush position stated "The simple answer is he thinks murder is wrong." As I've thought about Snow's message, it seems obvious to me that it was crafted to appeal to those on the religious right who are vehemently opposed to abortion. It is another clear example of the Rove strategy...which is to deliver a carefully crafted message to each constituency in order to solidify their support and motivate them for the upcoming election.

To see the stem cell debate explained with visuals and how the political argument put forth by the President is ultimately an absurd manipulation of the facts...link here:

10. Bush and his "faith" . . .
I think the worst kind of person uses their "faith" to justify their actions when it is to their advantage. Isn't that the reason we had this war in the first place since someones faith told them to fly planes into buildings and kill a bunch of Americans. Faith is as Faith does, real "religion" cares for the widows and the orphans (I didn't say that, Jesus did!)

14. Yup...
I saw Wanda Sykes on The Tonight Show last night. I don't usually watch the show, but got tired of the news and just happen to catch it.

Anyway, Jay asked Wanda what she thought about B*'s veto and all she said was, "Big Dummy". That pretty much sums it up for me.

Are psychopaths acting out their utopian fantasies with people as props. Why do they call war a theater? For a thug like bush it's all a fun show,a game of chess. A little pastime to puff himself up where no one he knows ever gets killed or hurt, but he gets to command others to die like a god,on his words, citizens shoot other people . Bush and his neocon-men say,let all the lesser people suffer MY wars, for ME,carry the spears and stab each other with them, it's all a jolly good show to these decadent parasite psychopaths. They make money either way. They don't care.As long as they never have guns in their face and no lackey ready to defend them. What would Bush do if he had to go face to face with the people shafted by En-ron,the Katrina victims,He would run like the CHICKEN he is and cry for his Mommy.Until he was run down and confronted.Bush is a person when a big majority of people stop believing he is powerful and do not "respect him" or his "boundaries and come into his space, than he will be held accountable for his crimes because the people will not be play by his rules in his'theatre' anymore.

His theater will have to be shut down and he will have to be caught and made accountable and the secrets told the truth come out,the believers fought and it may be very ugly. The bullies have run the show for too long.If we don't stop this game of make believe, and disobey the cultural imperatives of leaders and moneymakers the Earth will die and take all of us down The ecosystem has been neglected and abused by this money/market/profit game,.We can end it sanely (but not gracefully)by disobeying the 'dreams' of the boss man,the churchmen, the leaders, the pundits ,and get some self respect,Disregard the markets, security, and war cries ,and help each other, feed each other,,share,do what it really takes, break the patterns,do what you have to,listen to your heart, use your head, stop having kids awhile, think of something besides self,or we can do as we are taught, keep doing the same shit we always do,what we do now,let corporations tell us who we are,let leaders decide for us and remain docile children..and die insanely like bush wants.

and laying out all of Bush's crimes. He is either the stupidest man alive or the most evil. I personally believe he is a little of both.

If for some unfathomable reason we are never able to convict him and his closet minions in this life time, I truly believe he will fry in the next. I'm a firm believer in karma, that what comes around goes around. Bush and his followers will be pushed one way or another.

He is either the stupidest man alive or the most evil. I personally believe he is a little of both.

You have summed everything up so well. When Bush stood up there with all the little "snowflakes" (as Jon Stewart said this evening-- they are snowflakes because they are all different and all white) and talked about crossing moral boundaries, all I could think of was--crossing a moral boundary?? Was there one left? Mr. Christian President has condoned torture, bombing, the deaths of thousands of Iraqis ... abandoned the poor of our own country, lied ...

Then Tony Snow stands there today and self-righteously announces that Bush is against murder. Really??? Unless of course WAR is involved then all that is "collateral damage."

And all those little excess embryos? They're going to be destroyed. Wow. This was a meaningful moral stance. :eyes:

22. The Criminal in Chief
Has committed crimes against humanity, and he expects we the people to provide cover for his sorry ass. His pattern has been to fail at every endeavor and have others cover for whatever has gone wrong. The Entitled One has never been held accountable. The transgressions runs from treasury looting to killing innocent civilians in a war of choice, to election rigging.
