"I understand that many African-Americans distrust my political party"
Bush knows many blacks distrust GOP

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer Thu Jul 20, 6:31 PM ET

WASHINGTON - President Bush, addressing the NAACP after skipping its convention for five years, said Thursday he knows racism exists in America and that many black voters distrust his Republican Party.

Bush lamented the GOP's rocky relations with blacks. He pledged to improve that relationship and work with the NAACP's new leader to achieve common goals.

"I understand that racism still lingers in America," Bush told more than 2,200 people at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's annual gathering. "It's a lot easier to change a law than to change a human heart. And I understand that many African-Americans distrust my political party."

That line generated boisterous applause and cheers from the audience, which generally gave the president a polite, reserved reception. "I consider it a tragedy that the party of Abraham Lincoln let go of its historical ties with the African-American community," Bush said. "For too long, my party wrote off the African-American vote, and many African-Americans wrote off the Republican Party."

For five years in a row, Bush has declined invitations to address the annual NAACP convention. This year, with the Senate poised to renew the 1965 Voting Rights Act, Bush said yes. 6. He's had five years to do the right thing...

...and he didn't. Now he shows up with transparent motives and a fake sense of "humility" (I can't even write that word without putting it in quotes).

He tried approaching Asians in a similar matter during the 2004 elections. "I love Asians, Asians are the future, Asian businesses, Asian Asian Asian Asian"...more blatant kissing up for votes.

I haven't heard a peep out of him regarding Asians since November 2004.

Poop smells bad and should not be smeared on the body, much less eaten.

More news, later! :)

7. Bush's party is not the party of Abraham Lincoln
Lincoln's party was for public education (land grant colleges) and large government programs to help the working class (land grants). And Lincoln himself would be snubbed by Bush and his cronies as being from the "wrong side of the tracks".

10. November '06 elections; he trying to sell his 'party' and vision,
but he has no vision, and his 'party' is a lame duck FTMP (Did I make that up? For The Most Part?).

13. His election fraud party should hid their heads in
shame! To even let him come to their meeting is an outrage in my opinion. What kind of person heads up the NAACP?

15. Most. Racist. President. Evah.
This guy belong in the 1860's, not the 1960's.

I've never seen a more conceited, racist politician with less integrity in my life.

19. Not even close.
In fact, he's almost certainly among the five or ten *least* racist presidents ever.

Racism is still a problem, but it's never been less of one.

You could make a much stronger statistic by comparing him with e.g. living Americans or living American politicians that you can with any sort of historical comparison.

16. Hallelujah! George understands!
Well, that will take care of that, then. No more worrying about discrimination or moving toward a color blind society or poverty or inequality or disparate treatment or any of that other dreary civil rights stuff: George W. Bush understands that racism still lingers in America. And now that Good Cop George is on the beat, he'll roust that lingering racism and make it clear the fuck off that street corner and go do something productive. And don't give George that look either, lingering racism. And put out that cigarette.

There. All better now?

18. I notice that he doesn't mention that many of his party distrust blacks.
It is not the case that all Republicans are racist, by any stretch of the imagination, but a good many are, overtly or covertly.

20. The flat-out lie of Dems having no ideas has been exposed.
This Republican congress has bulldozed their way, breaking/bending rules all the while.

I really hope Democrats talk LOUD about stuff like this. America needs to be informed.
