Draft proposal of Rangel and Conyers
I need information on the reasoning behind Rangels, and Conyers' (and others) suggestion to bring back the draft. If I remember correctly, it was meant to cut *dumbass and his minions off at the pass re: the draft, and would include NO deferments. Not for the twins, not for anyone's son/daughter/grandchild/niece/nephew/etc. Money would not be able to buy one out of the service. However, after much searching, I cannot find anything to support that memory. Would any of our great DU researchers please point me in the right direction. :yourock:

Thanks!
Jenn

1. There will never be a draft that the repubs will not be able to
buy their way out of. Candyasses is what they are.

2. yes, you have basically outlined the proposal. ALL would serve--yet
they could do 'community service' for two years. which is like joining the nat. guard--so we would have that fight going on. Still--by putting forth the proposal it puts the scare into all---.

Rather like Israel--and I think Switzerland--all put put in at least 2 years.

3. Thanks you two!
Do you know where I might find a draft of said proposal? Or the name of it and I will look myself?

Thanks!

4. In Switzerland
they have a citizens militia. All men between 20 and 50 are in the army, and go to two week training periods like the national guard. you can do civil service instead of army service though (like drive old people to their doctors appointments).

5. "Community Service"
So basically, the kids of the elite would get to "serve" through reading to the youth at their local libraries, while the poor, lower middle-class, and working-class would get sent into combat on the frontlines...
