WSJ writer attacks blogger for criticism of Bush for groping Merkel (eww!)

The Wall Street Journal Attacks... me

--wingnut updates below--

Well, well, well, hello Mr. Taranto.

It seems the people at the Wall Street Journal put their fiction writer on me for my posting the Angela Merkel pictures. They didn't like it one bit.

Snip...

Eek! Sexual Harassment!
This is hilarious: It seems one Taylor Marsh, writing at the Puffington Host, is aghast that President Bush, at the Group of Eight summit, touched Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel on the shoulder:

Snip...

UPDATE: And since James Taranto and other conservatives still don't get why Bush groping Merkel was wrong, I guess we'll spell it out for them. It's in the United Nations sexual harassment guidelines. No wonder the Bushies don't like the U.N. It means they can't do whatever they want.

The act was demeaning to the leader of another nation. It also demonstrates insensitive (if not out-of-bounds) workplace conduct. Since this was an international summit, we'll cite the United Nations' sexual harassment guidelines. "Unwelcome behavior is the critical word," the document says, followed by a listing of objectionable actions. About halfway down the list: "Neck massage."

Ewwww. We're embarrassed again.

Sexual Harassment: Ewwww. Again

Ode To The Groper
By Madeleine Begun Kane

When diplomacy's needed, Bush gropes.
With his veto, he murders our hopes.
But there's one thing he's mastered:
It's causing disasters
So huge, we can't measure their scope.

1. ..."touched Merkel on the shoulder" (paraphrase)
well, isn't that a poor piece of journalism there. Touching someone on the (read:ONE) shoulder and giving someone and unsolicited neck rub are two entirely different things.

3. He didn't just touch her - he grabbed her
Is this comparable to the friendly slap on the ass the macho boss gives his female employees?

4. They HAVE to play this down
Edited on Fri Jul-21-06 04:00 PM by Totally Committed
They MUST try and make it seem ludicrous, and we shouldn't let them.... this behavior truly IS the red flag it appears to us to be. It is truly an instance of where Bush exercized poor judgement (at the very least) or exhibited a loss of control over his actions in a diplomatic setting (at the very worst), adn NEITHER of those things are satisfactory in a PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. In a time of crisis. At the G8 Summit. And he decides to grab THE ONLY FEMALE LEADER OF A G8 COUNTRY and "massage" her until she is forced to break his hold herself..... They MUST DENY ANYTHING WRONG HAPPENED or they run the risk of the rest of America seeing these pics and video on the MSM, and that just cannot happen... right?

Mark my words, if we don't get out in front of this and call it what it is, and this incident does get any wide exposure and people start to question WTF happened, they will make it seem like the big bad awful Liberals are at it again, and they'll whine and stomp their feet and we'll end up withdrawing the videos, and apologizing for the photos. You heard it here first.

If this comes out, we need a unified response and psychological experts ready to step up and back this up, and we should be preparing for that now. This "Criticism of President in a time of War" bullsh*t cannot be allowed to apply to an incident this blatantly bizarre and certainly public.

6. On the local news in Los Angeles & Orange County
they were showing the video and talked about it. They said millions had seen it and there is laughter all over at the president's behavior. The two anchors were just waiting for the break so they could break into laughter. It has gone viral and the reason the newsies knew was because they were talking about what were the Internet hot topics. They played it at least twice.
