FL's Spirit Airlines promotion advertising the "JEB" sale????
Presidential flight?

Posted by Marc Sandalow
July 21 2006

On its face, it sounds like the ranting of paranoid left wing lunatic.

Joseph Ereneta complains about Spirit Airlines latest promotion, entitled the "JEB" sale, which allows customers on some flights to upgrade to business class for as little as $20.08. Clearly that constitutes an endorsement, Ereneta wrote the airline, of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush for President in 2008.
As a "conscientious consumer," he said in his note, he has decided to purchase a more expensive tickets to travel from San Francisco to New York from another carrier, and to notify his friends and family of "this concern."

The airline responded swiftly.

"Thank your for taking the time to contact Spirit Airlines regarding our current advertisement promotion the JEB sale. We apologize if the advertisement is in any way offensive to you," read the unsigned e-mail from airlines Corporate Customer Relations office.
"Our Marketing Department is currently doing promotions in alphabetical order. We just had the Grace Sue, Happy and Izzie promotions. We are currently on the letter J and the name Jeb was selected. Any reference to the 2008 presidential election is purely coincidental."

Sounds plausible enough. Until you go to the company's Web site.

The sale is announced in a circle the shape of a campaign button, decorated by an American flag, and the message: "Upgrade Jeb/Business Class for $20.08." And "JEB Business Class from $20.08"
One look and the PR department's explanation sounds about as sincere as a ticket agent blaming bad weather or equipment failure for a "minor delay."

No immediate response was available from the Miramar, Florida-based airline. If Ereneta is looking for another coast-to-coast discount airline, perhaps he should try "Jeb Blue."

1. I get Spirt Airline's alerts and almost barfed
when I got this one. It seems they may have update the link to seem less political: http://www.spiritair.com/welcome.aspx?pg=salesinformation&number=182&utm_source=email&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=532

Even if I had to fly, I wouldn't buy a "Jeb" anything. lol

7. Ok, I emailed them. Quickly found the contact site from your info.
I have flown with them pretty often in the past, so I gave them a good piece of my mind. :argh:

8. Interesting business plan by Florida-based Spirit Airlines.
Thanks to ocelot and pabsungenis for posting the links to the banner and GOP logo.

Wonder if Spirit Airlines will lose some business over this little caper?

This is a coded message, IMHO. Note that $20.08 ==2008 in the Spirit Airline ad, and with the *Jeb* promotion and the precious little red, white and blue patriotic logo, :eyes:

Might be a good reason to let them know how we feel about their advertising.

Yep, logo is similar here too.

Looks like the Jebster's campaign termites never rest. They are just working away behind the scenes, away from too much public scrutiny. Or so they think.
