January 2007 ....... January 2009 ...... now what?
Let's assume we win one house in the upcoming midterms and then win the presidency in 08.

Now what?

The world is in a mess. The country is in a mess. The public square is no longer a place for discourse, but rather the Maginot Line between two warring ideologies.

So we win. Now what?

The country, if it were a person or even a company, could, truly, declare bankruptcy. We have spent not only our current fortune, but future fortunes yet to be realized.

The depths to which our government has been pushed are mostly unimaginable. It isn't just the big stuff. There are those thousands upon thousands upon thousands of small 'rule changes' that get put out there each and every Friday in the news dump. Small EPA rule changes that seem verbally innocuous but are devastating in their intent. The minor word adjustment to some arcane Dept of Education rule that causes our children to suffer. You know the drill. It 'just administrative' they say.

The Department of Faterland Sekurity has tentacles into places we can only imagine.

On the world stage, the good will we built up for decades, which reached its pinnacle in the Clinton years is gone. We are universally reviled. We have no allies, really; just fearful aquaintances who only hate us less than they hate the other guys.

Il Dunce changed *everything* in just a few years.

Is it even possible to reverse, I don't know ..... half of what they've done to us in a single presidential term? In two terms? Is it possible?

Or are we right and truly fucked?

1. Roosevelt reversed a situation just as bad.
A truly loving leader -- one who has integrity and courage -- could unite this country and make the world a better place. We just have to find that person.

2. It will be hard, but it can be done
It Will require bold and decisive actions, but we can declare peace as easily as war.

3. If only it were *just* war ......
..... but that's only the most public face of it. There are all those rule changes. All that new law, all those policy changes. Truly, a single word changed in an arcane law can turn its meaning in the opposite direction.

I woujld bet that none of us - or even all of us collectively - could even find out all the changes they've made.
