CT-SEN: Neocon Bill Kristol Donates to Lieberman
By Rachel Weiner | bio

This news won't make Joe Lieberman's foes any happier with their nemesis. It turns out that Lieberman got a $500 contribution from Bill Kristol, the Iraq-war-supporting neoconservative editor of the Weekly Standard.

It appears to be Kristol's first donation of over $200 since 1998, and all his other contributions have been to Republicans. Also interesting: Over 80 percent of Lieberman's donations in May and June came from out of state. Incidentally, we already know that Lieberman agrees with Kristol on Iraq. What about Kristol’s calls for war with Iran?

1. Can Lamont use these donations and GOP support in his ads?
I mean, legally can he mention Kristol and Coulter by name?

2. So what exactly is the news here? Kristol contributed to a
fellow republican, right?

3. I wonder if Joe will return it?
That neocon Kristol could be setting Lieberman up for Lamont to attack him

4. Wow, a whole 500? What a tightwad.
I guess that old beltway punditry game ain't paying what it used to. Heck I've given Lamont 200 so far.

5. This is getting a bit fishy
It seems to me the best way for the Repub to win is for the 2 Dems to split the dem vote. That must be the repub strategy.

7. Not in CT- and they don't even have a viable R running.

9. Do you think the repub can get 1/3 of the vote?
If so, there's a chance the repubs could steal a seat.

The divide and conquer strategy has been around for eons.

Schlesinger's already being buried with a gambling scandal and is polling very poorly.

8. LIEberman is splitting the RepubliCANT vote. We do not need any
Bushler supporting democrats. If he wants to vote like a repuubliCANT let him run as one.

11. The only way a Republican has any chance of winning Connecticut

Would be if Lieberman loses the Democratic primary and then changes his mind about running as an independent; and even then it would be unlikely.

Frankly, the general election is a foregone conclusion; what matters is the primary, and what it will decide is whether the Senator for 2006-2012 is Lieberman (D) or Lieberman (I).

12. I live in CT and I do not see the
election results as a foregone conclusion. Not at all....
What I do agree with is the next Senator will not be a Republican.

14. You're not from Connecticut, are you?
If you were, you wouldn't have reached the erroneous conclusion that Lieberman's going to win no matter what.

DU certainly has its fair share of unmarried marriage counselors.

17. No, I don't. As I said, I think it would be unlikely.

If Leiberman didn't run, my money would certainly be on Lamont, but I wouldn't completely rule out Schlesigner beating him, politics being what it is.

13. Add Kristol's name to a list of Lieberman supporters that also
includes Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and Glenn Beck. Yeah, Joe's a Democrat, all right!

18. No surprise to me. All for One and one for 'all war all the time'
Both work for Israel and want to see the Middle East go up in flames and they think by some miracle Israel and the US will be victorious in the end.
