VA~Seante Race: If Webb can beat George Felix Allen, Jr, does that end ...
.... George Felix Allen, Junior's presidential aspirations?

I think it does. I think Webb can do it ..... if he gets enough out of state support .... like money from us and support from the various Dem organizations.

My business partner's a lifelong Virginian (Tidewater area). It is her view that Webb is exactly the kind of Dem who can Virginia away from voting Republican. I've been a neighbor of Virginia since 1980 and see it the very same way.

In any case, my question today is ...... if Webb wins, does that signal the death knell of George Felix Allen, Junior's political career?

1. Yes, I would think so
but egos are a big problem with politicians.

2. Allen's presidential aspirations
sure would take a hit if Webb beats him, or even comes very close. Let's keep our eye on the prize, though. Focus on November 06 before we look down the road to 08. Jim Webb as Senator from Virginia would mean a world of difference in the Senate-can you imagine having an intelligent, thoughtful and experienced leader instead of the chickenhawk urban cowboy? Come on, folks. For the sake of our country, let alone the state of the Commonwealth of Va, do everything in your power to help Jim Webb win. This wasn't a seat Allen expected to even fight for, and now, he's got someone who can fight and win it. But, it takes money to get your message out, and that's where Webb is in the cellar. Please, spread it far and wide...go to www.webbforsenate.com to donate, or, better yet, donate through Wes Clark's PAC since he's endorsed Webb. Go to www.securingamerica.com, click on endorsed candidates on the left hand menu, find Webb and donate through Act Blue. Jim's immediate needs are money and name recognition. They go hand in hand. He has what it takes to lead, but needs our help to put him there.:kick:

6. I really don't need a lecture about 'looking down the road' ........
.... but if you think about it (requires thoughts about more than one thng at a time, though) looking to 06 in the case of the VA senate race **is** looking forward to 08.

3. That's why I was glad to cast my vote for Webb. He has background for
this commonwealth: military, more on the conservative side, and can fight when he is attacked. Still laughing about his campaign's response to Allen when he tried the first swiftboat attack: People in glass dude-ranches shouldn't cast stones. :applause:

11. No, it's not just you. I've been seeing it a lot in the last two weeks.
I was wondering if it was a strategery.

10. Because he doesn't like his middle name and never uses it
hence Webb's brilliant campaign team uses it every chance they get.

As do we.

19. His birth name really pegs him as a snot-nosed, spoiled
dillitente who has no business in any real job, much less the US Senate. Why isn't this guy the NFL Asst Commissioner for Stadium Refreshments?

7. I think it has potential
George Allen is disliked by a significant fraction of the Virginia electorate including many conservatives whom he irks. He's vulnerable, and Webb is the one to take him out in November.

9. There's no question
You can't run for President after you've lost your seat. It ends Felix's presidential aspirations.

Watch what happens if Tom Daschle makes the ill fated decision to run. He won't register even a blip on the radar screen.

13. I think so, and that worries me.........
the RNC is going to do everything in their power to keep Allen's seat because he wears cowboy boots and people would enjoy having a beer with him (hence his ultra early status of GOP frontrunner for '08). I expect a late flood of money to be injected into that race if it's tight in October.

15. I would hope that his presidential aspirations would be deader
than a door nail but today, on Washington Journal, I see a nightmare that has come back to haunt us. Newt is back with a vengeance - on every network, every day, spewing his same old nonsense. Just like Nixon, repug cockroaches never die they just slink back home, lie low and then reappear when you least expect it. The GOP, repugs and the neocons have never met a crook they couldn't "redeem" and embrace. Don't count Felix out.

16. I'm very concerned about Allen...........
I think that he may well be even more objectionable than the current President. Allen following 8 years of Bush is unthinkable. We're on the edge of a cliff here, and if we are down in the senate, congress and Allen's in the White House come 2009...........God help us.

14. Webb's a formidable opponent....
I think he's already *bloodied-up* Felix's Presidential ambitions

I also think Webb can beat him, it's only July and this is already an international story (since it concerns a future U.S. Presidential wannabe, that is).

:hi:

17. I love this question. Also I love the idea that Webb could not only
wrest the seat from Cement-Head, but rip the heart out of Allen's 08 aspirations in one stroke.

O yes that's a scenario that does it for me.

I think your conclusions are right-on.

And I like 'em a LOT.

18. Possible scenario:
If Webb beats Allen in '06, Allen's chances in 2008 are slim-to-none. However, at 54 years old, there are still options left. John Warner is widely rumored to be retiring in 2008, and though Rep. Tom Davis is considering the race if its an open seat, Allen ask him not to run and take his chances in that race. Allen could also run for VA Governor again in 2009. Barring either of those two, Webb's seat would be up in 2012, when Allen would be 60. He could re-challenge Webb, then if he wins that, be primed for a 2016 campaign, presumably at the end of a two-term President's second term.

None of those scenarios are likely, but in politics, anything is possible.

20. If Mark Warner does not become President or Veep
after the 2008 election, he may run for Governor again in 2009, in which case I think he could beat Allen.
