Just saw it at the bottom of the MSNBC screen, on TV. This may change things.

6. I can't figure out if/how this will complicate things.
It was very odd that they didn't take this position in the very beginning? Were they hoping that Hezbollah would capitulate and the crisis would be over by now?

9. Saudis have their own Shia population whom by birth own the Saudi....
....oil fields in the south. The Shia population in Saudi Arabia lives under poverty. The Saudi family has an agenda of weakening any Shia uprising within Saudi Arabia and throughout the Middle East, while Saudi Public is sympathetic to the Lebanese people and Hezbollah. The Saudi control TV has been showing cartoons, instead of the war in Lebanon, unlike the Iraq war in order to minimize the public opinion, while working behind the scenes in Washington. Therefore, of course the Saudis have their own agenda in this war.

10. Isn't that the case throughout the gulf, as well?
I remember in Bahrain the Shia population was large and poor, while the ruling family and the wealthy were Sunni.

It's a powder keg for them, I imagine.

Washington. Of course, the Saudis have very little political opposition that would want criticize the ruling party, compare to the other Gulf States; e.g.; Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, and Qatar. I think the Arab League in particular is very suspicious of the Saudis of late.

12. I'd say that's probably smart of them
And there may be some pressure coming the other way, as the gulf states attempt to -- ever so slowly -- bring in bits of democracy. The Saudis don't want to see that happen, I'm sure.

7. The US's options are narrowing...
I agree; this is probably going to change things....in a hurry.

It's my understanding Saudi Arabia is incensed over this. I think Bush and his Romance with Prince Fahd (or whoever it is) has been strained to the breaking point, many many times. Is the love affair over?

Let's hope so. The Saudis should Boot the Bush's, for good.

8. watch it
Watch what you wish for, there, Cliss!

If the cozy Bush-Saudi relationship sours, we could be seeing gas go well over three dollars a gallon at the pump!

It's unpatriotic of you to want to destroy the American way of life like that.
