Why does the media give the fundie wackjob right wing credibility? |

Even though Paula Zahn may be showing the "other side" of the argument when she talks about how the book of revelations speaks of the end of the world and how the end of the world is near (according to the fundamentalist wingnut wackjobs) the very fact that this viewpoint (that the end of the world is near) is being covered at all is giving it credibility that it does not at all deserve.
Would CNN cover the insane homeless guy that sits drunkenly on the corner speaking about how he was abducted by aliens the other night? Would CNN cover witchcraft or satanism?
Yet when an obscure cult claims to have cloned a human for the first time, CNN covered that. And now they cover the crazy ignorant morons who actually think the world is coming to an end.
Sure, they reported that the majority of people don't believe this. Sure, they said there are many "interpretations" of the book of revelations. They even interviewed a priest to the effect.
But by covering this fundamentalist voodoo at all, they are giving mainstream credibility to it
I'm tired of this bullshit. I really am. CNN ought to be driving it though everyone's fucking skull that the book of revelations and the end of the world doesn't mean shit. There is no "two sides" to this story. One side is right, (our side) and the other side are a bunch of goddamn superstitious idiots. Paula Zahn shouldn't be asking whether or not this interpretation of revelations is a crock, she should be vehemently stating it. It's a crock. It's a crock. It's a crock.
For shame. No wonder nobody knows anything these days. They do the same thing with global warming.

It's called "the dumbing down of America" and we are well into the program. It goes something like this: Don't fund education properly, so eventually kids don't think for themselves and have no critical thinking skills. Let the media outlets all conglomerate into a few large owned corporations, owned by right wingers, and filled with right wing hacks, but be sure to toss in an occasional liberal just for the fun of ripping them in two in front of everyone by not letting them get a word in edgewise. Keep the people occupied with stories about missing white girls, the latest goings on on "Survivor" and other crap. Push patriotism, patriotism, patriotism, until everybody is terrified to even remotely criticize the people in power for fear of being called a traitor. And finally, above all else, make sure to use heaps o'fear to make everyone afraid of foreigners and/or people who are not white. Fear is a wonderful motivator. Also, don't ever forget to occasionally throw a bone to your religious nutjob base.
Stir all of that into a big pot, and you have the Republican plan for power.
P.S. - Welcome to DU :hi:

Advertising used to be seperate from programming, no more. If it's not infotainment, it's product placement.
