In order to draw Syria and Iran into the fray. After all, that is what Bushco is ultimately gunning for in this conflict, the chance to invade Syria and Iran, all to fulfill their PNAC dreams of ME hegemony.

It's also a bonus that this ME war is effectively divding the left and Democrats shortly before this fall's election. If Bushco could keep that up until November, they score bigtime.
