I went to see this film last night. It was great. I recommend it. I learned plenty. And the most exciting part was that as we walked out of the theater there sat 2 electric cars! And several activists to answer any questions we might have from the movie. Apparently the owners of these cars (before all the cars were forcibly removed from them) loved them so much, that they turned into activists, and followed the cars as they were taken from place to place to turn into scrap metal. Because of this, they were able to buy a few from toyota, (not the GM EV1s they had previously owned) because Toyota didn't want to be seen crushing the brand new cars. They said these cars never need maintenance of any kind, no oil changes, no tune-ups. last for 200,000 miles, when the battery will go dead. in fact, they said the main reason GM blocked the cars, and even made sure to crush every last one (except one in a museum), is because the auto manufacturers make 40% of their income on every car sold from the parts they sell later on! the electric car would kill this part of the market, which is responsible for 40% of their profits. So the reason for the electric car's existence was a california ruling which said that a certain amount of cars sold in the state would have to be zero emissions vehicles. The auto manufacturers produced them but did virtually anything and everything in their power (with help from exxon and bush, etc. etc.) to show that there was no following for the cars, and eventually forced the state to backtrack and get rid of the law. The hydrogen fuel cell, now funded by bush, is guaranteed to not be practical for another 20 or 30 years. But, there is going to be another vote on reintroducing the bill in california, and we can participate in helping get that bill passed. Go see the movie! then go to the website at' pluginamerica.com to learn more and to write letters to your air control board. especially if you are in california. Electric cars are a simple, ready, easy solution to clean up our air, and stop giving our money to the oil companies. And we can actually make it happen by getting laws passed. (on a state level, obviously at this point) A few days ago, the 100,000.00 electric sports car came out and sold like hotcakes on the first day. So hopefully, its manufacturers will be inclined to make an affordable version for normal people. And a Chinese electric car will be on the market here in 2007, priced at 28,500. (Remember, no maintainance and no gasoline costs, electric expenses of 2-4.00 a day.)
