Clinton gets an "A"
Congress at the Midterm: Their 2005 Middle-Class Record
The third annual congressional scorecard from the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy evaluates each member of the U.S. House and Senate based on their 2005 votes on select legislation of significance to current and aspiring middle-class Americans.

http://www.drummajorinstitute.com/congress/drum-major-voting-summary.php?name=Clinton&state=NY&database=senate

No big surprises in the other Senate and House numbers.

1. Who are they? Judging by the number of Fs they gave to Repubs
I'm guessing the have a moderate to liberal slant. I noticed Boxer also got a 100, and Clinton and Boxer are very similar in ideology.

3. Because moderates and liberals favor the middle class
conservatives increasingly favor upper class and corporate interests.

5. Yeah, that's why I'm guessing they are moderate to liberal
Just wondered if anyone knows more about them. The moderate Dems seem to have gotten lower marks than the liberals, so it looks like a liberal organization. I wish this would stop all that NewsMax inspired "Hillary is a conservative" nonsense, but I doubt it will.

7. Just a thought but... has it ever occured to you that the Republicans are
"promoting" her in order to drive away Dem votes? The CON's seem to be very good at using psychology to fight with....

8. That's what I'm saying
The Republicans are trying to convince Dems that she's a conservative so she won't get the nomination. She is the candidate they fear worst.

11. Good, I have wondered if I'm the only that thought that. There are things
I strongly disagree with her stance on but then again I can't think of any politician I agree with 100% of the time. When I decide whom I'll vote for I try to base it on facts, not spin and whose stances best coincide with my own overall.

BTW - If you haven't seen these websites I have found them to be interesting, along with watching the gov Roll Call results, especially when comparing different Reps... such as Kerry and Clinton, etc:

6. they are non-partisan, but in the way of all think-tanks
they do have a progressive slant and admit that.

Mainly they seem to be about preserving Middle Class values, which I think is fair.

Sadly - and I know I am biased - I feel that any truly objective grading of the Senate based on middle class protection will be slanted to the Dems, so...

9. I was just about to post this website and data when I saw your post. I
took their spreadsheet of all House & Senate grades:

http://www.drummajorinstitute.com/congress/download/Scorecard%20spreadsheet%20FINAL.xls

And broke it down by number of A's thru F's and their party:

House
Dem A 88
Dem B 37
Dem C 55
Dem F 22
I A 1
Rep C 1
Rep F 229
Rep INC. 2

Senate
Dem A 9
Dem B 14
Dem C 20
Dem F 1
I C 1
Rep C 3
Rep F 52

I was surprised (but I guess I shouldn't be) I thought there were more moderate repukes. I also thought that Specter and McCain were mods. But as I'm learning here all repukes are basically liars and thieves.

Snowe, Collins and Chaffee have "better" records...

12. Hillary Clinton is a good Senator
Except for her stupid position on Iraq, and a couple of other aberrant votes, she is doing a great job.

Just can't wrap my mind around her as a Presidential candidate. The rapture right will stop at nothing to defeat her. She could be a good distraction, though. She runs and draws the fire. Meanwhile, the real frontrunner gets off without injury. Hillary steps down and the Dems have a clean candidate.

13. Odd that anyone would want to pump these not-so-great findings.

• Neither chamber of Congress demonstrated acceptable levels of support for middle-class Americans. In both the House and the Senate, more than half of the legislators failed. In the House, only one in five representatives received an A, while the proportion of As was fewer than one in ten among Senators.

• Both parties in both chambers of Congress fared worse than they did in last year’s report, but the slide among Democrats was particularly pronounced in 2005. Compared to last year, the proportion of Senate Democrats earning As declined by more than half. The House Democrats, who had no failing members in 2004, experienced a failure rate of 11 percent in 2005.

• Republicans showed the most support for the middle class on the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act (HR 3045), also known as CAFTA, where party leadership had to work intensively to ensure the legislation’s narrow passage. Even on this bill, though, overall GOP support was not sufficient to rise above an F grade.

Both Republicans and Democrats must do a better job of representing their middle-class and aspiring middle-class constituents. In the midst of stagnant wages and increasing economic insecurity, Congress consistently voted to undercut the middle class and those who strive to join its ranks.

I hope the electorate wakes up and kicks one of them out this fall.
