MoveOn wants $100...
Edited on Wed Jul-26-06 06:14 PM by Eric J in MN
...from 10,000 people each for phone calls to get out the vote in 2006.

From an email:

Dear MoveOn member,

We have to make a major decision.

MoveOn members said our top priority this year should be winning back Congress. So we dreamed up a big plan: "Call For Change," one of the largest volunteer phonebanks in history. Together, we'll call 5 million progressive voters in competitive districts and get them to the polls.

It won't just help win the House. It's about building a movement of engaged voters in red and purple districts across the country.

We've spent months laying the groundwork, and now Call For Change is ready to launch. But we have to commit to hiring organizers and building the tools, so we need to decide now if it's a go. To fund this, we need 10,000 MoveOn members to contribute this week.

We think going big is our best shot at changing the direction of our country. But it's up to you. Can you contribute $100 or more today?

It's a very ambitious plan to win big. Through Call for Change, MoveOn members from New York to San Diego will make over 5 million phone calls into 30 highly competitive House districts plus key Senate races.
We'll combine the energy of 3 million MoveOn members with new technology and cutting edge "microtargeting" techniques that have made Republican turnout efforts successful in recent years.

And to get rolling, we'll deploy 100 skilled field organizers around the country to help our volunteer leaders recruit and support other MoveOn members in their area.

We've tested the program, and it works. A researcher from Yale University found that MoveOn member voter outreach was more effective at getting voters the polls than any other volunteer phonebank measured before.

But all of our plans are counting on MoveOn members to step up and pay for this. We have to start buying call lists, hire more organizers and pay for the technology to make this happen. We can only do this if enough MoveOn members commit to supporting this program for the next 4 months. If not, we'll scale back the program considerably.

Can we count on you? Contribute $100 or more today.

This year, we have a real opportunity to win. Let's jump on it.

Thanks for all you do.

1. I hope they make there goal
But I can't help although I have given before.
But none of those efforts will mean anything if we do not have a fair election and a accurate count of the vote.
If they would have had a plan for that I would have probably scraped up the money for it somehow, because I think it is important.

Here in Ohio we need to also focus on GOTV for Congressional and state rep/state senator seats. I don't think MoveOn makes calls for that part of the ticket, do they?

I'm also concerned they don't coordinate with our state campaigns and end up duplicating effort or wasting assets.

11. Have they ever been effective?
I gave up when they wanted money after Clinton's impeachment.
