Did Jr know that Maliki would take a poke at Poppy?
As his grand scheme crumbles, Shrub probably got a little thrill when he read this jab at the old man in his advance copy of the speech. In front of Congress yesterday-

"In 1991, when Iraqis tried to capitalize on the regime's momentary weakness and rose up, we were alone again," Maliki said, referring to the United States' decision not to support a Shiite uprising against Saddam Hussein and instead withdraw from the country at the end of the Persian Gulf War.

Titled, "Iraqi Prime Minister Gets Mixed Response in Congress"

"Is he really asking American taxpayers to donate their tax money to Iraqi companies?" asked Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fla.), who withheld applause for most of the speech. "I thought the speech was wholly lacking, disingenuous, and disrespectful of other nations in the region."

A number of Democrats chose to boycott the speech, including Sens. Barbara Boxer of California and Charles E. Schumer of New York.

"I am not ready to honor Prime Minister Al-Maliki in the chamber of the House of Representatives until I have some very serious questions answered by him," Boxer said. "First, when will he be able to take over the security of his own country so that American soldiers may leave?"

3. I would say he did, indeed, know... and probably okayed the swipe, too.
There is no love lost between Pappy Bush and Dimson, from what I understand. He's Babsie's boy. It's classical father/son family psychology run amok. I think that's probably why Pappy has latched on to Billy-Boy so tightly.... he's the son he always wanted to have, but didn't.

4. That makes sense.
Consider too, that Clinton might be in search of a father.

5. Knowing Clinton even as much as we do,
do you really think there is NOTHING Machiavellian behind his friendship with Pappy B? I f he needed a "father figure" he couldn't have looked in Jimmy Carter's direction instead of BUSH, SR.? Tell me Bill isn't seeing this friendship as being able to deliver JUST enough Republican support in all the right places to get Hillary the nomination? And, if he plays especially nice, they MIGHT even let her win? Oh, cummon. You just know he's in it for what he can get out of it.

7. True... or have any political influence left with anyone, really.
No big vacation home in main or yacht, either. I can see why Pappy B looks good, I admit.
