House Finally Allows Minimum Wage Vote, Attaches Poison Pill
< Actually, the provision that Rep. McKeon plans on attaching to the minimum wage bill is an ideologically driven proposal to enact Association Health Plans (AHPs). The proposal would “allow selective groups of small businesses to be exempt from state regulation – reducing their insurance premiums while raising them for those not in AHPs.” Here’s the impact:

– More uninsured. “A study by Mercer Consulting found that AHPs would increase the number of uninsured Americans by more than 1 million. ”

– Higher costs. “Only about one in five small employers would have lower premiums, while more than four out of five would actually see premiums go up.” >

4. I agree - call the Mothers on it!
We need the minimum wage to increase. Then we'll go after the worthless add on that has no benefit to Americans after the Dems get control of Congress.

God almighty, are these people WORTHLESS SLIME or what?

6. Didn't we try that with the medicare prescription bill?
Better a bad bill than none at all?

And we've been stuck with it ever since. And they claim credit for something that has not, in reality, helped anyone.

They will claim credit for raising the min. wage, while gutting a million more families. Is that a trade-off we want?

8. I really don't think they'll go through with it under these conditions.

I think it's all bullshit. I'd just like to see them back down at the last minute. They're calling the Dems bluff, and I say we turn it around and throw it right back at them.

Edit to add: My Dad was spending $600-700 per month on prescriptions, and since he enrolled in the new program, his costs have dropped to around $200 month, so while not perfect, it has helped some.

5. A damn shame the Dems can't attach their own signing statements.
I vote for increasing the minimum wage, but in my state the McKeon provision is to be disregarded. Signed, ...

9. Although I think it would be just as Constitutional as Bush doing it....
which it is not at all... if they did so it might be taken as their approving Bush's thinking he can change a law with a signing statement.
