Press: Bush fiddles while Middle East burns
By Bill Press/ Syndicated Columnist
Friday, July 28, 2006

Who says the apple doesn't fall from the tree? When it comes to foreign policy, the Bush apple
fell so far from the tree, it's a lemon. If Junior Bush had one-half the savvy his father had,
we'd never be in the mess we're in today in the Middle East.

As with anything in the Middle East, there are layers of complexity in the current conflict
that reach back to the beginning of time. Yet this much is clear: In this war, Hezbollah is
the aggressor. Hezbollah struck first, aided and abetted by Iran and Syria.
Israel is the victim, and had every right to respond.

But this is also clear. This latest war would not have gone on so long, with so much violence
and such disastrous loss of life and property on both sides -- indeed, this war might never
have happened in the first place --
were it not for the inattention, the inaction and the incompetence of George W. Bush.

Imagine, for starters, that Dubya, like his father, had made peace in the Middle East a top priority...

...More at Link

Snip-->
"By contrast, Bush 43 began his presidency by slamming Clinton for spending so much time on
the Middle East -- and then proceeded to ignore the region. Colin Powell traveled there rarely;
Condi Rice, even less often.
Bush did nothing to advance the peace process and now the chickens have come home to roost.
What we see today is, in large part, the inevitable result of five and a half years of doing nothing.

Imagine, also, that today's President Bush had heeded his father's advice against
invading Iraq.' A big mistake, said Bush One, because we would forced "to occupy Baghdad,
and in effect, rule Iraq." We would become, he warned,
"an occupying power -- America in an Arab land -- with no allies at our side."

Which is, of course, exactly what's happened. <--Snip

3. Here's the scary words and translation that accompany that video

Wumpscut
Totmacher

sie ahnten nichts von mir
von meiner wilden gier
doch als du kamst zu mir
da wurde ich ein tier
kein gedanke an danach
als ich dir die knochen brach

tot tot tot ich mache dich tot
tot tot tot von blut alles rot

tot

fuer mein naechstes leben
schoepfe ich neue kraft
ich bin dem toeten ergeben
in der einzelhaft

tot tot tot ich mache dich tot
tot tot tot von blut alles rot
tot tot tot ich mache dich tot
tot tot tot von blut alles rot

ein dahinsichen
von gottes hand
ich kann dich riechen
und das denken verschwand

tot tot tot tot tot tot tot ich mache dich tot
tot tot tot von blut alles rot tot tot tot tot

ich mache dich tot ich mache dich tot
ich mache dich tot ich mache dich tot

sag mir was du willst

TRANSLATION

Wumpscut - Deadmaker

They didn't expect me
never expected my wild lust
I turned into an animal
No thought about afterwards
When I broke your bones

Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red

Dead

For my next life (life after death in the religious sense)
I get the power I need
I’m a slave to the killing
In solitary confinement

("einzelhaft" (solitary confinment) has become part of the german vocabulary after the terrorist attacks of the Red Army Fraction during the 70's. It's used for people in prison, who are put into complete isolation not just from other people, but from all kinds of information. It's what might be known in the US as "sensual deprivation", a kind of torture-technique to destroy people's self.)

Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red
Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red

Wasting away
By God’s hand
I can smell you
And my thought disappeared

Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red
Dead, dead, dead, dead

I make you dead I make you dead
I make you dead I make you dead

Tell me what you want
That you fill my longing (that you satisfy my desire)
I make you dead for evermore
God’s altar stained from blood so red

Dead, dead, dead I make you dead
Dead, dead, dead stained from blood so red

I make you dead for evermore
I make you dead believe me its true
I make you dead for evermore
I make you dead on God’s altar

Let America be America Again

Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

(America never was America to me.)

Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed--
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.

(It never was America to me.)

O, let my land be a land where Liberty
Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath,
But opportunity is real, and life is free,
Equality is in the air we breathe.

(There's never been equality for me,
Nor freedom in this "homeland of the free.")

Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark?
And who are you that draws your veil across the stars?

I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart,
I am the Negro bearing slavery's scars.
I am the red man driven from the land,
I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek--
And finding only the same old stupid plan
Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak.

I am the young man, full of strength and hope,
Tangled in that ancient endless chain
Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land!
Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need!
Of work the men! Of take the pay!
Of owning everything for one's own greed!

I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil.
I am the worker sold to the machine.
I am the Negro, servant to you all.
I am the people, humble, hungry, mean--
Hungry yet today despite the dream.
Beaten yet today--O, Pioneers!
I am the man who never got ahead,
The poorest worker bartered through the years.

Yet I'm the one who dreamt our basic dream
In the Old World while still a serf of kings,
Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true,
That even yet its mighty daring sings
In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned
That's made America the land it has become.
O, I'm the man who sailed those early seas
In search of what I meant to be my home--
For I'm the one who left dark Ireland's shore,
And Poland's plain, and England's grassy lea,
And torn from Black Africa's strand I came
To build a "homeland of the free."

The free?

Who said the free? Not me?
Surely not me? The millions on relief today?
The millions shot down when we strike?
The millions who have nothing for our pay?
For all the dreams we've dreamed
And all the songs we've sung
And all the hopes we've held
And all the flags we've hung,
The millions who have nothing for our pay--
Except the dream that's almost dead today.

O, let America be America again--
The land that never has been yet--
And yet must be--the land where every man is free.
The land that's mine--the poor man's, Indian's, Negro's, ME--
Who made America,
Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain,
Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain,
Must bring back our mighty dream again.

Sure, call me any ugly name you choose--
The steel of freedom does not stain.
From those who live like leeches on the people's lives,
We must take back our land again,
America!

O, yes,
I say it plain,
America never was America to me,
And yet I swear this oath--
America will be!

Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death,
The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
We, the people, must redeem
The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers.
The mountains and the endless plain--
All, all the stretch of these great green states--
And make America again!

4. I keep asking what people would've had Bush do...
...and I don't get an answer--or any answer I get he could implement from anywhere.

6. He could begin by
learning a bit about the History of the Middle East and why the Israelis and Hezbollah (sp?) are at war. He could then follow that by appearing to be at least mildly interested in what's going on, perhaps having serious discussions with other World Leaders (who know more than him about this, I'm sure) about what can and cannot be done. Perhaps then he could try to arrange a meeting between the top two people of the warring factions, get them talking and see what, if anything, can be done to at least momentarily stop the bloodshed.

Bush has done none of these things. He of the Mouth Full of Buttered Roll spit out a "they need to stop this shit" to PM Blair and slipped the responsibility off to Kofi Annan, sent the laughably undiplomatic Diplomat Condi Rice to insist that the only Cease Fire she'd accept -- and we were the only ones not accepting the Cease Fire agreement, by the way -- is one in which both sides would promise to never fight again (um, hello?) and then he went out campaigning for Republican Congressfolk.

Anyway, those are just my uneducated guesses on what could be done.

8. Just learned that
while the Mideast burns and families see their lives destroyed around them, Bush spent time meeting with the American Idol Finalists.

Yep, that's our Pres, hard at work.

9. he is a hard worker! I've seen pictures of him clearing brush at his ranch
see? he even LOOKS like a cowboy!

I'd say these pictures sure prove somrthing... maybe a basic psychological insecurity or maybe they just prove he's not even capable of presenting plausible propaganda.

11. appoint competent cabinet people, for starters
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 07:19 PM by uppityperson
people who could function as diplomats, if that were their job (Condi), or as emergency directors (Brownie), or as decent lawyers (Ashcroft), etc etc etc

Maybe you have been asking the wrong people, or maybe you have not been hearing the answers.
