Schumer undecided on Bolton - CNN |
|
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 11:30 AM by karynnj
He told Blitzer that there are good and bad things about Bolton.
Good: strong supporter of Israel
Bad: He antagonizes the world (says filibuster unlikely - we need to call his office - he does say he is not decided.) Last time he voted against cloture (for the filibuster as did Lieberman))
My comment - is there ANY American diplomat that will not be a good friend of Israel. Couldn't a diplomat (Bolton is by definition not one) be more able to actually help Israel. I doubt Bolton moves anything in our direction.

3. This says it all about Bolton's role: |
|
In the past, the United States had enough credibility on both sides and kept enough of a distance during these blood fueds so that we could intervene and prevent the fighting from escalating into a gigantic war. It appears that there is no one in the Bush Administration who can step up and intervene to calm the situation. Hell, with John Bolton and Elliot Abrams leading the charge, we are Israel's enablers. http://noquarter.typepad.com/my_weblog/2006/07/isarael_taks_a_.html

What I don't understand is how people who support Israel think Bolton would help. I am Jewish and American - and can critisize both when I think they are wrong. (I know Jews who have more difficulty criticizing Israel because they feel that as they don't live there they don't share the consequences.)

Has Bolton softened, or is he still obstructionist toward brokering a solution in places like North Korea, where the situation continues to be dreadfully dangerous - where Bolton's firey rhetoric stalled talks until he was banned from the procedings.
As the rhetoric and situation becomes more tense regarding Iran, is Bolton the right person to broker diplomatic ties with the broader international community in search of a solution? Or is he still a "Unilateralist" who is likely to provoke a dire international incident that could precipitate yet another military entanglement?
My biggest question, is knowing what you know about Bolton, and his record with the statedepartment, and that as the head of nonproliferation matters - dangerous countries accelerated their proliferation: Why is this even a question? The only question i can conceive of is fear that someone worse would be appointed, and who in the world could be WORSE than Bolton? Or is Richard Perle in line, and we just don't know it yet?

7. Someone should tell Schumer that he is NOT a Minister of Knesset |
|
but a US Senator.
What can we expect from a puke that supports Lieberman?
