Is anyone else getting REALLY sick of those South Park guys?

I am watching some crap called "manbearpig" :puke:....it seems to be some inane crap about how global warming isn't real (reading between the moronic lines) and Al Gore is just an attention-seeker.

Are these guys 5?

I wouldn't really care if these morons didn't reach so many teenagers and presumably influence them.
Besides someone needs to explain to these guys that satire is only funny if it has some connection to reality...

I disliked their politics ever since I first saw "Rainforest Schmainforest", but they are getting worse and worse.
Idiots.....

10. South Park jumped the shark years ago.
The people who "found" South Park in the indie theaters showing Spike and Mike's Twisted Animation have long since found new and original shows. It was really cool for a while, but now another season of will be the cartoon equivalent of Rambo 5. There'll be no surprises just the same old violence and profanity, which get old real fast if there's nothing new to back them up. I think the only thing really keeping it going at this point is the merchandising.

24. I TUNED IN S.PARK 5 TIMES IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS... GORE BASHING EVERY TIME
I've never seen South Park re-run a show this much. That particular episode wouldn't be funny, even if I didn't think Al Gore is a great man. South Park is now part of the propaganda machine. I used to be a big fan in the early days. When the cartoon first started, its irreverent social satire reminded me a Lenny Bruce in a way.

32. I would point out that South Park doesn't get to decide which episodes
are re-run, nor how often. If a Gore-bashing episode (there are several) is being played over and over, it is your local station doing it, not P & S.

I've seen the same thing here in my nazi-neck of the woods too, fortunately I've seen most of the episodes made so I know there are many, many RW bashing episodes too.

it's not the show itself or my "local station" that decide what is aired NATIONALLY. It is the owners/managers of that particular network.

34. I don't know which station you are watching, but the point remains that
it isn't P & S that decide which episodes are re-run. Here I watch them on a local broadcast station and they, like all of the other stations and shows, buy a certain number of 1/2 season packages to air as often as they see fit.

42. I must have missed the bits where they really skewer the right wing then
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 06:04 PM by nam78_two
I have seen recent episodes (my boyfriend is a fan :spank:) where:

1) As far as I could tell they blamed Hurricane Katrina on democrats/environmentalists/Hollywood and the people of NO
2) Blamed environmental catastrophes on the "smugness" of hybrid owners
3) The Gore stuff

What also bugs me is how self-righteous they are themselves about issues they apparently care about(that Family Guy episode made me want to puke..."Oh look at us-we are all for free speech"...get over yourselves morons!), but "skewer" anyone speaking out for issues they sophomorically think are "dumb".

If they are so upset about free speech, why are they not attacking an administration that is actually rolling back civil liberties? Instead they pick on Comedy Central? Yeah sure, its all Comedy Central and Hollywood liberals -they are ones ruining our lives....

Yes, they do have the odd episode bashing the Mel Gibson or the religious right, but mostly they handle the right wing with kid gloves. They are not conservatives but libertarians so its not really surprising.

I think the last thing the world needs right now is more people in popular culture reinforcing the "Me first, me first" attitudes. Most young people are not reading Diderot's essays on consumerism or Voltaire's opinions on religion. They get political opinions from the likes of these jackasses and if they are convincing 5% of the US populace that environmentalism is "retarded", they are doing us all a huge disservice.

I know...I know...Its just a cartoon...not to be taken seriously.
They still bug me and I am venting.

And at this point its a transparent lie that they "dish it out equally".

I wish my boy friend would stop watching it....most annoying...

Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 11:18 AM by kiki
...is that when they have Bush on the show, he's this non-descript, grey little guy who bears absolutely no resemblance to the real Dimson that we know and revile.

I know they don't like to do "Bush-bashing" because "it's too easy" and "everyone's doing it", but I find it funny that the only way they can present a non-condemnatory image of Bush is to basically pretend that he's a completely different person.

And by "funny", I do of course mean "fucking pathetic".

I know Matt and Tre aren't really "liberals", but I'm sure they're well aware that the collection of crooks, fascists and all-round fuck-ups currently making up the US government is the richest target for satire in the history of the nation. I can only conclude that they choose instead to focus their razor wit on a losing presidential candidate from six years ago because (1) they "know which side their bread is buttered" (ie, they're greedy assholes) and (2) they "don't want to rock the boat" (ie, for all their credentials as so-called iconoclasts, they're a couple of fucking cowards).

So sad. Matt and Tre, time to get reacquainted with a couple of old friends: your balls.

end of effing story!

Same logic, no :P?

The reason they really piss me off is stuff like casting more doubt in people's minds about the "debate" on global warming etc.
Sad as it is there are a lot of people who get their news/opinions from things like South Park, Michael Crichton's fiction etc. I know such people and I think its sad... They have become a RW propoganda machine.

I love the Daily Show and the Colbert Report but I wouldn't get fully fledged opinions on any issue from them...
I don't understand why people base political opinions on a cartoon but they do and yes it pisses me off.

You are entitled to your opinion and I am to mine.

That's the way of all cutting edge comedy, i.e., it's bound to insult someone.

I've only watched them when I've gotten stuck in the same room with people who were fans who had the show on. I'm just not a fan of the "art" of crass "libertarian" know-it-alls. It's not my preferred kind of entertainment, not even considering the politics of it, but the constant right-wing propaganda aspect (I always hear the "they attack both sides" argument, which holds up about as well as arguing that Alan Colmes on FAUX acts as an effective balance to Sean Hannity.) just makes it unwatchable for me.

Why? If this COMEDY show is influencing people, then they were LOST long before the South Park Boys got to them.

IMO, the vast majority of people can understand that this is a "very warped" perspective but when it doesn't effect YOU, it's human to LAUGH. It's a dark part of our nature, but that doesn't mean we don't realize that to actually act on any of this, is both cruel and inappropriate.

Just like my parents thought "The Rolling Stones" were making all us children of the 70s DIRTY HIPPIES, it didn't happen. ;) :hi:

I did a little Joe Queenan-style post a few weeks ago in the genre of his "Admit it, it sucks" columns from the late and lamented Spy magazine. Not having "search" capabilities, I can't find the post anymore in the archives, but I'll go with Queenan's tagline from all those columns:

Admit it: South Park sucks. Admit it and you'll feel better.

Manbearpig simply sucked. It wasn't funny, it made NO sense and was bad writing. They make fun of everyone. I think it's sad that some folks can't divorce themselves from their politics long enough to have a good laugh.

On edit.

I really have only watched the 1st 3 seasons on my Ipod. Perhaps they aren't as funny in season 10? If Manbearpig is any indication I won't be watching much of it.

Cat Orgy or Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub from season 3 are both priceless. Eric Cartman is my favorite animated toon ever.

The episode ripping on The Passion was pretty funny.

The South Park guys are conservatives, Matt Groening is liberal, so I figure that leads to balance in the cartoon world.

Heck, I love The Al too, but geez, isn't any public figure fair game for cartoon treatment?

And I dunno, I've watched a lot of South Park episodes, and if you ask me, republicans they ain't.

Is it not possible that they are actually satirizing anti-Gore sentiments? Why would they take the cheap and easy route of simply parroting the Right's diatribes against Al Gore? Why not flesh out their fantasy Gore-as-boogeyman scenario and see where it goes?

And forget about Al Gore, think about all the "anti-Canadian" sentiments the show has espoused from the start. Now I challenge you to find a Canadian anywhere who is actually offended by South Park's portrayal of us. In fact, we're probably the biggest fans. I wonder why?
