BRAINSTORMING:Ideas to get the DNC (Or is it DCCC?) to Support John Laesch
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 01:29 AM by benburch
http://www.john06.com/

John Laesch is an amazing young man who is challenging Speaker Of The House Dennis Hastert for his seat in Congress.

Based on our door-to-door work here in a VERY Republican town, he stands a damned good chance of defeating Hastert.

He has appealed to the DNC (Or the DCCC as the poster in the first comment suggests, I'll verify) for financial help, but their position is that they will absolutely not help him with one dime unless he first raises $300,000.

Well, I have to tell you that if we could raise $300,000 we likely wouldn't need the DNC's money as this is a very grass-roots campaign here.

This is sort of like how banks won't loan you money unless you don't really need it.

What I need here is your ideas; How can we get the DNC (or DCCC) to support John Laesch?

Even if you think your idea is a bit nutty, post it! It might not be nutty. And it might suggest an idea to somebody else!

And please K&R this thread, too?

Thanks so much!

1. First....that is the DCCC requiring that. Please change that.
The DNC does not require that. They help in some races, but that is the tactic of the DCCC.

He sounds like a good candidate, but please get the groups straight.

2. I was told the DNC this afternoon.
But this was second hand though another candidate here. I'll check and see if I can verify that.

3. The DNC does not require that.
The DNC mainly is rebuilding the party, getting ready for the 08 race. However Dean said they would help in some targeted races.

The DCCC is awash with money right now, they even outraised the GOP. That is who you need to target.

The DNC might help by posting his candidacy or something, but only if it is viable. Money is tight because people are not contributing to change the structure to small donor. However they are hiring on more large donor people now.

4. That is a damn shame
That they won't help unless he has 300K. Pretty much defeats the purpose of the organization.

5. He has raised over $100K already.
Hastert, of course, has millions.

They call it "buying a place at the table" and you are not considered "viable " unless you have that money. It takes a minimum of a million dollars to win such a race , actually more. It doesn't matter how much grassroots support you have. Name recogniton is a media game and that takes MONEY. I have worked for two congressional races, neither of whom the DCCC would help .The current one is a viable candidate and could win but nada. Not to be mean but you , as are many congressional candidates, are on your own. Best of luck to you.Try to get PAC money and post on the DCCC website and ACT Blue. If he is a vet post on their site. Also, go to firms. They contribute large sums.
