when the invasion of Iraq first occurred, MSNBC came up with the cute little slogan for their coverage: "The New Iraq" ...
a year or two ago, when they either decided Iraq wasn't so "new" anymore or that things were going so badly that perhaps a different catch phrase was needed, they renamed their Iraq coverage to "The Battle for Iraq" ...
we should never forget that MSNBC, like most of the other MSM, became nothing more than an advertisement for administration policies ... I can't help but recall "the new Nixon" or the "new" Chevy Impala ... the role of media in a democracy is to be the fourth estate - their job is to act as a check and balance against the lies and propaganda that the power elite tries to push on the people of the US ... when media is run by advertising jackasses instead of real newspeople, our democracy is severely threatened ... this is yet another example that the pursuit of a buck, i.e. capitalism, is inconsistent with democracy ...
finally, just as an aside, MSNBC's headline today about the "new" Iraq was: "Is Iraq on the Brink of Collapse?" ... maybe the "decider" will tell them the answer ...
