7. The UN vote you refer to today isn't binding on anyone
There has to be another vote before any sanctions apply. One has to doubt that when it comes down to it, China and Russia are actually going to vote for any sanctions regime that could be used as justification for another U.S. attack. Tell me if you disagree. This from the same CNN article:

http://edition.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/31/iran.nuclear.ap/index.html

Because of Russian and Chinese demands, the text was watered down from earlier drafts, which would have made the threat of sanctions immediate. It now essentially requires the council to hold more discussions before it considers sanctions.

The resolution passed by a vote of 14-1. Qatar, which represents Arab states on the council, cast the lone dissenting vote.

Drafted by Britain, France and Germany with U.S. backing, the resolution follows a July 12 agreement -- by the foreign ministers of those four countries, plus Russia and China -- to refer Tehran to the Security Council for not responding to the incentives package.

2. This gang of insane rich men
openly talk about culling the herd, meaning killing enough of us off that they have a servant class but no more. The religious nuts at the bottom have been convinced that the rich men at the top are going to be able to kick Jebus off his heavenly throne and force him to come back and fulfill the insane ramblings that make up Revelations if they set the world ablaze with enough nuclear weapons.

This is the sickness we're confronting.

5. where the hell are the Democrats?
i've heard some rumblings about direct talks from Democrats ... i support that ...

but overall, my sense is that once again the Democratic Party will respond to bush with a great big "thank you, sir ... may i have another?"

we already have troops operating inside Iran ... if Democrats don't stand up for PEACE NOW, we are going to soon find ourselves in our final confrontation ...

6. He means the time bomb is ticking.
Bush and Bolton are trying to use the American alliance with Israel, and "Israel's right to defend itself against terrorists" to cover for Bush's real plans to take on Iran also. This administration is literally itching for war; "time to beat down all the heathens once and for all, let's get it over with befor more muslims get nuclear weapons." They still want to "drain the swamp" as they call it. You know we are in deep shit when Condi Rice is the relative Dove amungst them.

Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 12:18 PM by Totally Committed
be filibustered? I'm telling you... we are in for never-ending war as long as the Republicans are in power and we keep electing guys like Schumer who keep voting their nominees into power.

Iran is next. Ugh. I'm so disgusted and sad.

10. It could be that there are not enough votes to prevent
cloture. You know Lieberman will side with the republicans.

11. From another post
Apparently, a DUer called Schumer's office, and the characterization in the article by the New York Sun that Schumer said he wouldn't filibuster Bolton's renomination is inaccurate; that is, Schumer hasn't decided whether or not he'll filibuster the nomination, the reporter drew that conclusion all on his or her own.

But the story that Schumer won't filibuster Bolton's nomination stays out there, and Schumer would be better served to issue a press release with his true stance (if indeed he hasn't decided yet whether to filibuster Bolton). His office's silence on that point certainly emboldens the corrupt Bush administration on its reckless course.
