Are we missing something important? Pete Ricketts (R-NE)
Yesterday, the Verizon V.USGov text message group sent me this note:

"A win by Republican Senate candidate Pete Ricketts would make it nearly impossible for Democrats to gain control of the U.S. Senate (OWN)."

Are we missing something?

Nebraska US Senate: Nelson 57%, Ricketts 31%
Angus Reid Global Scan, Canada - Jul 23, 2006

Nebraska’s Ben Nelson could earn a new term in the United States Senate, according to the latest poll by Rasmussen Reports. 57 per cent of respondents in the Cornhusker State would support the Democrat incumbent, while 31 per cent would vote for Republican Pete Ricketts.

Nelson was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000, defeating Republican Don Stenberg with 51 per cent of all cast ballots. Nelson served as Nebraska’s governor from 1991 to 1999.

Ricketts is the former chief executive officer of Ameritrade. In May, Ricketts won the GOP’s senatorial primary with 48 per cent of all cast ballots. Ricketts, who has never served in public office, spent $4.75 million U.S. of his own funds in the contest.

The election to the U.S. Senate is scheduled for Nov. 7.

Republicans cite the former first lady and New York senator to mobilize her foes. Pete Ricketts, the Republican Senate candidate in Nebraska, warns in a recent ad that "a Democratic Senate controlled by Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy promises an agenda of higher taxes, more government spending and liberal judges."

Hillary Clinton, however, is destined to become a popular bugbear for Republicans. Ricketts, the Republican candidate seeking to unseat Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson, has mentioned the New York senator in recent radio and television ads and includes her image among those of Kennedy and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., in a current ad airing in the state.

1. Preview Of "Things To Come" Re: Hillary!
While I for one DO NOT think of Hillary as Liberal much less that Progressive.... this kind of attack is just exactly what will be used if Democrats decide "it's Hillary!"

For the millions who DO NOT blog, or even keep up with politics other than sound bites, this is a very "telling" introduction of what's to come!

I say John Edwards, but have been for a very long time. My preference would be Gore/Edwards, but doubt Gore will actually run. A year is a long time though and if things get as drastic as I think they will, Gore may step up to the plate. While I respect and feel Edwards would make a great President, I think it would be more beneficial if he served as a Vice first if Democrats could find a "stand out" candidate! Gore is the only one I see.

I love Feingold, other than his total support of Israel... but if Hillary is being called Liberal, there's no telling what Feingold would be tagged with! Worse that what they did to Kerry!
