Rasmussen: Support for Lieberman plummeting |
|
Just last month he mustered a fifteen-point lead over Ned Lamont in a projected three-way general election contest (with Lamont as the Democrat and Lieberman as an Independent). Now, Lieberman’s lead has disappeared. In this month’s three-way match-up, Lamont and Lieberman each get 40% of the vote. The Republican, Alan Schlesinger, attracts just 13%. That is in a 3-way race with GOP-wanna-be Lieberman running as an Independent. But Democrats prefer Lamont: Overall, Lieberman is viewed favorably by 58% of Connecticut voters. Just 49% say the same about Lamont. But, Lamont is more popular among Democrats (see crosstabs). http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2006/State%20Polls/July%202006/connecticutSenateJuly.htmBut the big twist is: Schlesinger has even been pressured by some to drop out because of questions about his past as a gambler. Conceivably, the GOP could then hand the nomination to Lieberman, and a rumor has been circulating to that effect.

5. Was this posted also: Lamont 51% Lieberman 41% ? |
|
Sorry if it is old for many -- it was news to me. A good news at that! Lieberman Lagging Lieberman (D) 41% Lamont (D) 51% ... The latest Rasmussen Reports poll of Connecticut’s Democratic Primary shows Ned Lamont leading Lieberman 51% to 41%. That’s a significant difference from last month when Lieberman led 46% to 40%. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2006/State%20Polls/July%202006/connecticutPrimaryJuly.htm

If you're going to post old news, you should at least say so.

7. here's the scary script ... |
|
Lieberman is toast whether he runs as an Independent or as a republican ... and it's hard to see how he can run as a Democrat because i think he'll lose the primary ...
if the republicans had any brains, and they might have one or two, they'd dump Schlesinger who couldn't win even if he had no opposition, and they would get Chris Shays to run instead ...
that would be a much tougher race for the Dems and Lamont would have his hands full trying to hold on to the seat ... let's hope that doesn't happen ...

8. Shays won't run for US Senate |
|
He supports the war as much as Lieberman does and most of CT, including Indy's oppose the war.

i'm an "outsider" when it comes to CT politics but i have the impression that Shays is highly respected ...
do you think Lamonts best chance is in a three way with Lieberman as an Indy (and Schlesinger as the repub) or in a two-way, head to head, against Shays (if Lieberman would drop out)?

10. Shays is battling for his political life against Diane Farrell |
|
He'd be swamped by Farrell if Farrell had the courage to endorse Ned Lamont, but she chose to endorse Lieberman. Shays is using Lieberman to beat back Farrell's anti-Iraq war message.
Shays supported the Iraq war and still does today, Lamont would beat him easily if Shays was the Republican US Senate nominee.
In a 3-way, I see Lamont winning. Lieberman will have a Dem Primary loss around his neck and the stench of losing will be high from the Lieberman camp. Lieberman will lose most of the Dem Party infrastructure support and will have to rely upon Republican money, like he is now, to fund his Indy campaign. Although, if Lieberman loses big on Tuesday, I can see the Republicans dropping off funding Lieberman's Indy campaign. Even they don't want to back a loser. They may send Lieberman enough cash to harrass Lamont but a Lieberman loss on Primary day is the end of Lieberman's elected political career.
Jodi Rell is the best Republican candidate that CT Republicans have and she's running for governor, not US Senate. And she has no ambitions to run for the Senate seat.
