Is getting Bush out enough of a reason to vote for Kerry? |
|
Because that's the only reason I would vote for Kerry. I admit, I want Bush out, but I don't want to submit to simply obeying the DLC and dutifully voting their oh-so-much-wiser choice. I think that they have corrupted the process and given me a candidate who voted exactly the opposite of how I want a senator to vote in several crucial votes. Why should I vote for him now? Just because Bush is evil? I expect Bush to be evil--but I don't expect the Democratic party to betray me and my principles. I don't want to give in and let the worst part of the Democratic party think it has a lock on my vote.

4. Some of us have to live with the consequences of a Second Bush Term |
|
Those of us who do not make as much money as Ani DiFranco, Susan Sarandon and Barbara Ehrenreich have to live with the consequences of a second Bush term (which will be infinently worse, btw). We don't have the luxury that these limousene Leftists have of engaging in soul searching exercises of New Age self-discovery.
There is a reason why Ralph Nader polled poorly among non-whites, union people, gays and the poor: they knew that they would have to live with the consequences of a Bush presidency.

16. It's not just "limousine leftists" that are troubled by Kerry. |
|
I'm struggling with a start up business after being laid off two years ago, and missing car and credit card payments doing it, and I would still like someone who will challenge the core problems that need to be dealt with to achieve a sustainable and fair economy. Unfortunately I am afraid that a Kerry presidency will only slow the rush to the Energy Crash and corporate feudalism. I'll still vote for him, because he's at least better than Bush.
Dissing celebrities who have the courage to put their careers on the line to raise substantive issues is counterproductive. That is a freeperesque tactic.

if we could get control of congress maybe some of them could get enacted. The larger issue of "free trade" vs "fair trade" will have more impact on economic sustainability for all of us.

8. Maybe it is--but it's sad |

I'd like to vote for someone I'm excited about. Dean first, Edwards a close second and racing into first, or Clark--why are the Democrats giving me such a lousy choice when there are better ones? OK, Dean may not appeal to the whole nation, but Edwards could--he's certainly more fun than Kerry. If we can't have Dean, could we at least have Edwards? Please?

6. Kerry was the FURTHEST LEFT member of the DLC. Doesn't that matter? |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 02:21 PM by blm
Kerry's overall ADA rating is higher than Kennedy's, fer chrissakes.
It was Kerry at the DLC who pulled leftward while the centrists at the DLC (like Dean) were pulling further right.

I can't think of any Democrat I wouldn't vote for to get Bush out.
Four more years of Bush means even more of a Republican Supreme Court. It means more war, more war on the poor, on the environment, on a woman's right to choose.
Try to see beyond your own personal issues and think of the greater good! Millions of people's lives will be affected negatively by 4 more years of this horrible President.

This nation -- hell, the world -- cannot survive another four years of the Bush Regieme. Kerry may not be perfect, but he has shown a willingness to listen to other arguments and to compromise where necessary, two traits that are sorely lacking from the current WH resident.
It's not about Kerry alone. It's about getting the Executive Branch back into the hands of the Democrats. The ability to appoint federal judges, to run the AGs office, to write regulations, to put forth ideas which represent Democratic ideals re: the environment, the economy, separation of church and state, international relations, use of nuclear weapons, etc.
If Kerry is the nominee, I will vote for him. If Dean is the nominee, I will vote for him. I will vote for any Democrat, for I believe that Bush is the worst president in the history of our country, and if he continues in power, the Great American Experiment is over.

You will not recognize this country, or the world for that matter, with four more years of bush.
and given me a candidate who voted exactly the opposite of how I want a senator to vote in several crucial votes.
Let's pretend for a minute that what you're saying is right...
1) You're comparing a Senator's "several crucial votes" with this President's being against everything (I'm guessing) you've ever stood for as a human being.
2) Don't you think any move left from bush would enable further movement in the future?

A second Bush term would propose an even more right wing extremist agenda since he would not have to face the voters again. Although I am concerned with a number of issues, the single most compelling involves the next nomination to the Supreme Court as undoubtedly O'connor and others depart. Do you want Bush to be in control when that occurs and upset the tenuous balance that currently exists in favor of another Thomas or Scalia? If so, then say bye-bye to Roe v Wade.

Ask yourself, would Kerry nominate someone like Rehnquist to the Supreme Court or someone like Ginsberg?
There is the answer. 3 justices in 2005-2008. We can't let Bush have them!

24. Vote for you candidate of choice in the primary |
|
In the general election, IF Kerry is the nominee, why the hell WOULDN'T you vote for Kerry over Bush???
I assume you are a registered Democrat??
Who would you like to appoint the next Supreme Court replacements? A Republican or Democratic President?
Would you like to have the war mongering end with Iraq or would you like to have additional wars started in Syria and Iran?
Would you like to give Bush and Ashcroft 4 more years to take even MORE of your civil liberties away?
Would you like to see ANOTHER big tax cut for the wealthy while more and more social services get cut?
To suggest there is little difference between Kerry and Bush is just plain nonsense. There is a HUGE difference between having a Democrat in the White House and Bush and his cabal over the next 4 years.
