1. Yup.
You will notice whenever anyone starts an "I'm not giving a dime" thread, it's never a moderate.

Edited on Sat Aug-05-06 01:35 PM by MercutioATC
The "party" has made too many lousy decisions to be trusted with my money right now. If I see a change, I'll contribute. Until then, I'll stick with supporting individual candidates.

23. For me, it changed last November.
My city had a Mayoral election.

The Republican was the incumbent and he's done a good job with our city (great schools, great city services, low taxes, great credit rating, etc.).

The Democratic challenger has made numerous unsuccesful political bids in surrounding cities. He ran the most negative smear campaign I've ever seen. His only "positive" idea was to lower taxes even further, something that would have lowered our city's bond rating.

The Ohio Democratic Party endorsed the challenger simply because he was a Democrat.

That's when I realized that my interests would be better served by making decisions directly, not letting some large group make them for me. I support the candidates that I feel will forward a positive agenda.

14. Well Dean needs to show that he is doing
the right thing. Raising money for all the democrats not just the ones that the Dccc and Dscc deem worthy. That is what the fight is about with Ron Immanuel. He wants the money to go to who they think can win. Their opinion of who can win.

26. We have a very important
race in my own district so that is where my money is going (and time). From what I understand the Democratic Party has done little to help her so it's up to us to do the work and support her.

16. Hey everyone!
Don't forget that "all politics are local". Please do remember to help your local Democratic Clubs. They spend their money on local candidates and unless we can build a solid foundation of Democrats at all levels of government we will fail to take back broad political power.

39. No
It means local Democratic Clubs. They are the ones who get out the vote, contribute to local candidates and do all of the "grunt" work for the Party. Our State Party here in Florida is positively worthless. A great example: "The area of S.W. Florida including Collier, Lee, Hendry and Charlotte counties are politically irrelevant." There are 185,000 Democrats in those counties and the State Party won't even spend money on TV ads there. That includes Ft. Myers and Naples areas. There is a coalition of Democrat Clubs organizing so as to do the work of the State Party.

Hey Eric!!

19. Yes now the phone calls, emails, letters, etc. come in all the time

We seem to give to any group that is liberal, Democratic, pro environment, civil rights, etc... Then add in individuals and that adds to a victory this November.

20. Gave $10 to Sherrod Brown
I plan to give more to other candidates. Here are my suggestions for some who can have tough races and/or are underfunded:
Mike Callaghan (facing Shelley Moore Capito)
Jim Webb (facing George Allen)
Larry Kissell (facing Robin Hayes)
Dan Seals (facing Mark Kirk)
Joe Donnelly (facing Chris "The Count" Chocola)
Mike Arcuri (facing Ray Meier in an upstate NY open seat)
Phil Kellam (facing Thelma Drake)

25. DNC has been a big help here in Ohio
The GOP had nearly dried up all contributions to Dems through its pay to play criminal empire here in Ohio. There were severe penalties to anyone who made donations to the state party or candidates.

DNC funds were a much needed infusion of cash that helped Dems get back on their feet. The tide is turning.

BTW, I donate to the DNC every month.

30. I bought a "Democracy Bond" today.
Edited on Sat Aug-05-06 07:09 PM by Eric J in MN
http://www.democrats.org/democracybonds.html

They would like 500,000 people to buy them, but so far only 34,000 have.

"The Republicans raise $10 million every month from corporate interests and lobbyists. The Democratic Party will never be able to compete in the traditional ways with a party that has abandoned the people and taken selling access and influence to a new level.

But we can do it if half a million people are giving $20 a month to change the way our political process works."

The Demos are the only viable alternative to the current regime...somewhere in the real world?

But we might still have a 1 party system...can't say for sure.

...they have not managed to mail me back more than my donation was worth in additional solicitations. So far so good.

Also to my local rep, and he only sent me one extra letter.

Wish I could say the same for the Carter Center. I'm collecting all the stuff that comes in from them, and eventually I'll count it up and figure out how much money they are in the hole from asking me to give more money rather than using my money for their stated mission.
