What is going on w/ DU re: GE? |
|
What is going on?
I’ve seen these boards go from ABB to ABK, DU members slam the DNC for DLC pronouncements, and threats to "strike" on election night. (DLC != DNC!!!)
Now I have read anti-kerry rants regarding the special interests, the “Botoxgate”, and rehashing of his wishy-washy legislative history, and while this maybe reason enough to be ABK in the primary the general election is another story.
Would Kerry be better than Bush? This same argument can be used for all the candidates. Anyone running is better.
Yes, one candidate may be better at beating Bush than his rivals, but if he isn’t in the GE you should work to give that extra boost to the challenger.
I am 18, and I do not want to live my life with a Scalia stacked Supreme Court. Sour graps will screw over my generation.
Sorry, yes no one will read it, but i just snapped.

Read it and concur. Pretend 'purists' are actually just vain. |

You'll see as you get older. Some folks get wiser, some folks become more vain.

Are these just mind games? Like let's make a DUer's head explodes when I say there's no way I'll vote for Kerry, I'd rather see Bush win again?
Anyone who does not support the Dem nominee against Bush might as well go to FreeperLand.

Don't worry, most of us on DU are working hard to see that your future is protected. With some good luck and hard work, I think we can take our country back for the kids sake! (I have 4, so it matters)

6. PLEASE PURISTS: your vote/novote affects EVERYONE |
|
Goal - get Bush OUT in 2004
THEN work on remaking the party or whatever.
Foswia is 18; I am over 60.
Each of us, those in our age groups, NEED. BUSH. OUT. IN. 2004.
If you can survive 4 more years - great.
...PLEASE think of those of us who will find it very difficult, if not impossible.

8. Everytime you hear someone say |
|
one of the Dems is no better than Bush... Ask them this:
Will XXX candidate (Kerry, Dean, Clark, Edwards, whoever) nominate someone like Pickering to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court? If they say no, then there is there reason the Dem is better.
We can have another Marshall Court if the right person is in the White House. We can solidify the Rehnquist vision for another 15 years if Bush is in office. Which one do you prefer?

23. Didn't Kerry vote for the confirmation of Antonin Scalia? |
|
He did. As a matter of fact no Dem voted against Scalia.
11 Dems voted with the Republicans to confirm Thomas. (Dems had a majority then)
When Bork was nominated Dems had enough spine to resist and we got a little better deal with Souter. Why couldn't we insist on a better deal with Scalia and Thomas? The Dems in the Senate share responsibility for our lousy right wing Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court was held over our head in the last election. We were told "if you don't vote for Gore we'll end up with more justices like Scalia"....but Gore....voted for Scalia!

You would be surprised. We post more often, and are more politically energized, than you would think. We just don't mention our ages, I chose to for effect. I’ve followed politics closely since I was twelve.

11. Hey, Foswia! Welcome! |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 05:11 PM by BurtWorm
As far as the strike goes, I (who asked the original question about it) don't want Bush elected anymore than anyone else on this board does. I just don't want the Democratic Party to think it can play to the center forever without losing some of us over here on the left margin (which used to be much closer to center, by the way, until the center got moved toward the Republican right).
I want more straight-talk from the guys running. I don't want excuses for the way they voted if the way they voted empowered Bush. I want a commitment from the Party and its candidate to undo Bushism, top to bottom. I want to hear it loud and clear. The Bushists were wrong to take us into Iraq; I don't want to hear that they were right but did it wrong, because that's a lie.
I don't just want to vote against Bush, I want to vote for a Democratic candidate who will change the way things are done at the top of the political food chain. I don't think I'm really asking for too much from a Democrat.
PS: Enough pledges from us. How about a pledge from them: No more business as usual!

I understand what you mean, but this is not the time to consider such a stunt. This country cannot take four more years of Bush. I don't want my generation to lose sight of progressive politics b/c so called progressives didn’t unseat Bush. Bush’s fiscal irresponsibility will make progressive polices nearly impossible to implement. He is a threat.

21. There's no doubt in my mind that Bush is a threat. |
|
I want to ensure that my party makes sure someone like him doesn't happen again. They can't do that unless they send a clear message that they're in this not just to get rid of Bush but to change the system so people trust democracy again. A lot of us went out into the streets to protest what happened in the last election. A lot of us--even among those supporting the candidates who have dismissed our anger--still feel enraged about how Bush was possible. Our party needs to demonstrate that it understands what this rage is about. It needs to tell the truth and stop playing the game on the right's turf.

I find it almost impossible to believe some of this stuff. Even using the names Clark or Kerry in the same sentence with * is an abomination, much less stating the three are synonymous with each other! :argh:

seems we go through this crap about every four years or so . . . in the end, I believe that everyone who understands what four more years of Bush will mean will vote for the Democratic candidate, whomever he may be . . .

A Dean guy thinks I’m a whore for Kerry? Check my post history I’m for Clark.
You doubt my age? Your mistake. My only friend who was a Dean supporter was brushed off by his “grass roots,” despite a history of volunteering for Gore and McBride (who ran to unseat Jeb). If you doubt our age wait till you meet those of us at Johns Hopkins Center for Talent Youth.

22. It doesn't matter who the Democratic nominee is... |
|
as long as they beat Bush!!!!
I don't care if it is Clark, Dean, Edwards, Kerry, Kucinich or any other Democrat. I want the best candidate!!
Once that nominee has been determined we need to ALL get behind that person. We all need to do our part and go beyond that point that we want to stop and give it a bit more for the cause.
I don't want Bush to get elected. He is worse than his daddy and worse than Reagan and worse than Nixon. Is that what we want? Another 4 years of a worthless waste of DNA?
When I was in college I bought a calendar from the bookstore that had the number of days left before Nixon was gone. Fortunately, Nixon resigned before it was used up.
THIS POSTING WAS INTENDED FOR ALL READERS!! Not just for Foswia
