a thought on electability |
|
we always say we want to elect a President that:
sticks to his beliefs shows leadership by defending unpopular stances is unbeholden to special interests shows passion/ emotion (is not boring) has a normal family/ is like us (not a trophy wife, etc.) speaks the truth rather than just what people want to hear (pandering)
yet when given this option, we run away from it out of fear that someone in the south or midwest or other geopgraphy will not vote for them.
it's kind of like a girl who wants to date "bad boys", but gets upset when they treat them like shit.
if you want a nice romantic boyfriend that won't cheat on you, then go with the good guy.

the best man for the job, but as things start heading for the final day, more and more people start to get worried they will be caught on a "losing team".
it starts out a contest about ideals, but it turns into nothing more than a popularity contest.
our political process was pretty well summed up by the movie "Some Kind of Wonderful", but in real life we never have the happy ending, the rich jerk winds up getting everything.
