Could this be the dumbest thing Bush has ever said?
I've chronicled the dumbest things our dumb president has said before, but this one just might take the cake:
You know, I hear people say, Well, civil war this, civil war that. The Iraqi people decided against civil war when they went to the ballot box.

5. I heard him talk about the "shituation" in the Middle East this morning.
The man can't speak for nothin'. What a disgrace that someone so arrogant doesn't even make an attempt to pronounce words or names correctly. Shows his lack of respect for others. Some Christian.

...and as a result, I think I am now dumb--just because I heard it.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I'm still astounded. I can't believe that the lap-dog media sits there politely and allows him to get away with such nonsense.

11. The election is the only accomplishment Bush has in Iraq.
That's why he keeps talking about it. And that's why he's keeping us in Iraq, to support the feeble Potemkin government that was the result of the election. Once that government falls, we are out of there.

Exclusive: Iraq—Plans in Case of a Civil War

Aug. 14, 2006 issue - The Bush administration insists Iraq is a long way from civil war, but the contingency planning has already begun inside the White House and the Pentagon. President Bush will move U.S. troops out of Iraq if the country descends into civil war, according to one senior Bush aide who declined to be named while talking about internal strategy. "If there's a full-blown civil war, the president isn't going to allow our forces to be caught in the crossfire," the aide said. "But institutionally, the government of Iraq isn't breaking down. It's still a unity government." Bush's position on a pullout of U.S. troops emerged in response to news-week's questions about Sen. John Warner, chairman of the Armed Services Committee. Warner warned last week that the president might require a new vote from Congress to allow troops to stay in Iraq in what he called "all-out civil war." But the senior Bush aide said the White House would need no prompting from Congress to get troops out "if the Iraqi government broke down completely along sectarian lines."

when you put it in context with some of the other things he's said, it looks downright normal, sane and balanced. Hell, even well-informed -- relatively speaking, of course.

19. Can I ask my own dumb question?
How can we tell when it has become an "official" civil war? What's the deciding line? What level of violence is enough? How long/consistent must it be?

And, then, even if it's determined that there really is an "official" civil war underway... what will they do? It's just been said they'd leave, but would they? Would there be any pressing need? Would the violence be aimed at U.S. troops any more than now? It seems less likely if anything--depending on what they're doing... Indeed, they might be able to just hole up around the edges and wait for the fur to quit flying--or rather wait for the bad guys to come looking for them? I would have thought their purpose, though, would've been to try to stop such violence and/or protect innocent civilians (if such can be identified).

As bad as the idea was to go in was, and as bad a job as has been done of the occupation, and as miserable a failure the attempt at Democracy building is... I can't help but think that leaving is going to lead to even worse problems down the road.
(aside from all the atrocities we will have allowed, whatever's left will probably be a real haven for terrorists (instead of the training ground it currently is), then there's the fact that we'd be giving IRAN control over untold additional oil wealth thereby making it by far the world's super-ultra-mega Oil Power** (of course, they'll have to deal with a few Kurds) and generally empowering that insane whackjob Ahmadinejad).

**and we just can't let that happen until we have indeed weened ourselves of our dependence on oil (and, alas, I don't see that happening anytime soon). We need the oil; no-not "steal" it, "buy" it (as much as we can still afford--as poor as we're getting to be).

20. Bush is so abysmally ignorant it's BREATHTAKING!
Every time he stands at a podium, and shares his "wisdom" with the world, I cringe. How is it possible that someone so pathetically ill fitted to be a leader, let alone a world leader, is President of the United States of America?....Mind boggling!

29. Let's fill in those pronouns, Mr Bush. "Civil war this, civil war that"...
"Civil war this..."

"Civil war in Iraq has killed thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians, destroyed American credibility in the world, divided our country in the middle of a very real war against terrorist networks, and has devastated the cause of peace and stability in the Middle East for several generations. The chances that the conflicts you stirred up over there will result in terrorist acts against us over here has have been exponentially increased by your bungling, unjust, and mismanaged war."

"Civil war that..."

"Civil war in Iraq has further strengthened our foes in the world by providing a prime breeding ground and recruitment field for terrorist groups like al-Qaeda, the same groups which you chose to ignore for three years over the stench of the bodies of murdered Americans on our soil. When you should have been seeking justice for the atrocities of 9/11, you instead chose to misdirect this country into a war intended solely to secure American control of Iraq's oilfields, you fucking greedy asshole, sir."

(I throw in the "sir" because I always think you should respect the office of the presidency.)
