HuffingtonPost Raises HuffingtonPost Raises $5 Million in Financing
HuffingtonPost.com, the left-leaning news and opinion Web site started last year by pundit Arianna Huffington, has sealed a $5 million infusion from venture capital firms Softbank Capital and Greycroft Partners.

The new capital will help HuffingtonPost expand its roster of more than 750 contributors, add to its 15-person editorial and technical staff, and develop more exclusive news, video blogs and Web-based video newscasts.

The site recently added a media news section called "Eat The Press" and plans to launch a section devoted to food, health and other lifestyle-related topics, Ms. Huffington said.

1. food, health and other lifestyle-related topics -- NO!! Don't sell out!
This is a political site and should STAY a political site.

My opinion, anyway.

2. I agree--I'd rather see that money go into a national TV program
But at least now the contributors can get paid.

3. I guess Arianna is looking to the future...to a time when war will
not be the major conversation. She is preparing for her own Martha Steward-ism. Her own tv network, because that is the only thing that can happen . These blogs cannot stay at the level thy are now. With success comes the need to grow.

4. Probably just add more fluff...
it's hard to convert that money into hard hitting, incisive content... and alas, some of their choices aren't that interesting to me, but I suppose it's their money and they know best how to please themselves (and probably better than me how to make more money--which is probably their primary goal; isn't that the American ideal; isn't that part of what's wrong in the world).

5. Well, you know, people like to get paid for what they do. And the writers
and webpeople notwithstanding, that much bandwidth is EXPENSIVE.
