Evan Bayh endorses Lamont! |
|
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2006/08/lieberman_concedes_connecticut.html"Senator Bayh supported Senator Lieberman in the primary because of his respect for Senator Lieberman's service and their long friendship," said Bayh spokesman Dan Pfeiffer. "The Democratic voters of Connecticut have spoken, and Senator Bayh respects their choice and will support their nominee."

people know who Evan Bayh is. and hopefully the fact that a conservative leaning Dem is not supporting Lieberman will get other conservative leaning Dems in Connecticut(i doubt there are many) to support the party nominee instead of Joe.

|
http://www.thedatabank.com/dpg/113bayh/Bayh's All America PAC is paying for internships working in campaigns around the country. The PAC has also paid for campaign training for folks who are interested in running for office or working on a campaign. I think the cost was 40.00 for 3 days training and it included lunch. Everyone I have spoken to had great things to say about the program. Hope more Dems offer this kind of training.

I agree. Like Hillary, when she said "I'll support the Democrat" - it may or may not have been what they "wanted" to do, but all they know is if they want to stand a chance in '08, they need the kind of people that voted for Lamont - meaning people that actually WILL VOTE in primaries in the first place.
Smart move on Bayh's part, though I'd say it should be the obvious move.

Will never forget how he described the Iraq invasion as "morally superior," and "noble," at a Senate hearing that was supposed to hold Rumsfeld accountable for the horrors of Abu Ghraib. And the way he was gazing at Rumsfeld... I couldn't help but think, "Geez, get a room."

|
Unwittingly, Lieberman's son -- Matt -- evoked a painful memory when he told the crowd: "This is a campaign with exciting momentum going forward." Lieberman was widely ridiculed for calling his fifth-place showing in the 2004 New Hampshire presidential primary a three-way tie for third.

41. "Nice"? Hell! I Am Talking About Integrity! |
|
Just once, I want one of the "good" guys to have the integrity to do or say what needs to be done without worrying first about the cloying, clammy embrace of partisanship.
I would have loved for Bayh to have said, "Well, as a Democrat, I'm supposed to root for the incumbent. But frankly, I hope Joe doesn't win because his lips are so chapped from kissing Bush's ass he needs more Vaseline than the makeup department on a porn film starring Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin*."
But, sigh, I know that is not being practical on my part. I just want SOMEONE to be a friggin' grownup in government.

The citizens of Connecticut just told the Democratic Party shape up or get the hell out.
To endorse any candidate but a Democrat would be in the short run, a slap in the face to the Connecticut voters. In the long run, it's political suicide.

I've heard him talk, have met the man in person, and have talked with him.
He has integrity, honesty, and is more progressive than he votes in the Senate. Remember, he is a Senator from Indiana, the 12th most Republican state in the country.
I will not criticize Evan Bayh. His immediate support for Ned Lamont shows just how principled he is.

It's interesting to see Bayh and Clinton first with their support. They should be nervous about the Lieberman loss and what it means to us. Seriously, I think we should judge each candidate by their strengths and weaknesses, but I would seriously consider disbanding the DLC at this point.

Has it exactly right this time. The votes have spoken. It is time to honor their wishes. You get one chance each election cycle. Last night was Lieberman's chance. He came in second. It is time for him to move on to the next phase of his life. That does not mean a do over this November.
Give it up Joe. It is not about you. It is about the voters in Connecticut. Their choice was Ned Lamont.

he would support Lieberman in the primary as did several other Senators. I never doubted that he wouldn't give support to Lamont should he win. There are two types of loyality in question. 1) friendship 2) loyalty to the Democratic party. Loyalty to the party will always win out, that's were Joe made his mistake. He wasn't as loyal to the party as he should have been.
