**Time To Get The War on Terror Back On Track**
That's the talking point, folks. "Time to get the war on terror back on track." Don't let the MSM and repugs frame our stance as "anti-war-on-terror," "soft on terror," or "defeatist" when its really "anti Bush's war on Iraq". Its time to support our troops, get them out of Iraq, and get the war on terror back on track!

1. the 'talking point' is that there is NO SUCH THING as a 'war' on terror

You CANNOT declare war on an abstraction.

Same goes for the so-called 'War on Drugs'.

Just my two cents.

3. So.. we were attacked by a "word" on 9/11?
You CANNOT declare war on an abstraction.

We need to get the war on terror back on track, and support our troops by getting them out of Iraq so they can bring justice against those who attacked us on 9/11.

**this is a test run of a talking point I think will work**

4. You say we can't win the war on terror??
You can't defeat a word.

Instead of defeatist rhetoric, we need to get the war on terror back on track, and bring justice against those who attacked us on 9/11.

all you're doing is encouraging ignorance

"Al Gore is boring" "Kerry flip-flops"
The use of talking points isn't ignorance, ixion.
It's a successful and proven political technique.
I think we should stop the nay-saying and get the war on terror back on track.

10. the war on terror is a figment of your imagination
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 04:36 PM by ixion
and doesn't exist. Sorry, but you'll never convince me otherwise.

Please describe for me the scenario (a realistic scenario) where the so-called 'war on terror' could be called won.

Please keep in mind that the so-called 'war on drugs' has been going on for more than twenty years, and has succeeded only in ruining people's lives, or killing them outright.

Please tell me how this so-called 'war on terror' would reach it's conclusion, because it really seems to me like nothing more than an endless excuse for war, which I am against whole-heartedly.

12. We need to get the war on terror back on track.
Ponder this, ixion: Instead of invading Iraq, destroying the world wide good will and sympathy extended our way after 9/11, killing tens of thousands of innocent humans, losing 3000 'coalition' troops, spending hundreds of billions of borrowed dollars, dividing our nation in two, and spawning 10,000 new bin Ladens - imagine if we had focused on bin Laden himself, if we expended our total effort, and captured or killed him and ended the Taliban.

We need to get our troops out of Iraq, and get the war on terror back on track.

13. see, that's just the thing... capturing bin Laden is not synonymous with
'winning' the so-called 'war on terror'.

There can be no 'win', because you cannot remove the abstract notion of terror from the human experience, which is what a 'war' on terror implies. 'Capturing' bin Laden would do nothing. Nothing. The reason groups use terror (a CRIMINAL tactic, NOT a military one), is because they are not being given a voice, or that they feel that another country has infringed upon their country. Whether or not the claim is valid is irrelevant, the fact remains that 'terrorism' is a criminal tactic, and should be handled, as it has been for decades, by the international law enforcement community.

The so-called 'war on terror' is nothing more than an excuse for an end-run around international law and the United States Constitution, IMO.

Except I'd phrase it: "Bush's so-called 'war on terror' is nothing more than an excuse for an end-run around international law and the United States Constitution."

That's why it's time to get the real war on terror back on track!

6. We *didn't* start this.
but will never happen because the people who triggered the war on terror are B*sh's buddies.

Osama bin Laden started this war. It's time to get the war on terror back on track, get our troops out of Iraq, and bring Osama bin Laden and those who plotted with him to justice.

7. I agree.
It will definitely work as a mainstream talking point and is the way to go for the Democrats.

When * doesn't seem so keen, people might start to figure out what's really going on.

11. "Withdrawl from Iraq = Another 9/11" - RNC Chairman
There's the Repug talking point right there, bespoke by RNC chief propagandist Ken Scum-man minutes ago on MSNBC with "Withdrawl from Iraq = Another 9/11" printed across the screen for 5 full minutes.

We need to get our troops out of Iraq, get the war on terror back on track, and to focus on the people who were actually behind the 9/11 attacks on our country.

That's the kind of crap we'll keep getting from the republicans.
We need to get the war on terror backon track.
