My letter to Senator Lieberman.
Dear Senator Lieberman,

I wish to thank you for your years of public service, particularly your first two terms in the US Senate.

Now, I must ask that you drop your plans to run as an 'independent' candidate in the Connecticut Senate race.

You were defeated in the primary because you have allowed your personal views to overtake your responsibility to your constituents. Although you were not alone in authorizing this administration's disasterous invasion of Iraq, you have remained steadfast in your support of this 'pre-emptive war' based on outright lies. You have allowed this administration to grab power away from Congress and to make Congressional oversight moot. The Bush administration has based all actions on a flawed ideology that has harmed the middle and lower classes while making the rich and corporations even wealthier.

Democrats need to keep the Connecticut Senate seat and act as an opposition party to this extreme right wing administration. Over 60% of Americans want to change the direction of the country and regain the respect we have lost world wide.

All Senators and Representatives work at the will of the people. The people of Connecticut have spoken. If you truly love the Democratic Party, then step aside and support Ned Lamont.

We are not the 'loony left' nor extremists. We are the same people who voted for you and Al Gore, the rightful President of the United States. We are the Democratic Party.

1. here's mine---nedlamont.com has a campaign going to write to Joenertia

Dear Sen. Lieberman:

I appreciate your votes in favor of the environment and civil rights in the past but you are wrong on the war in Iraq. We never should have gone there and your votes to follow King George W. off the cliff to the black chasm that is Iraq has led our country to $9 trillion in debt and a war that is a widening quagmire. I support Israel but perpetual war is neither in Israel's interests nor our own US interests. Staying a course that features failed policies upon lies upon ignoring the advice and reports of experts causes me to conclude that your judgment is as flawed as GW Bush's Wars in the Mideast. For these reasons, I ask you to withdraw from running as an independent against Ned Lamont.

Sincerely,
A Constituent in CT

2. Great letter!
Very respectful, but to the point. I hope you get more than a form letter in response. You've inspired me to write one, too, though I'm sure it will be disregarded because I am not a part of his constituency.

3. I don't think I could be that polite at this point
Right now mine would be more like:

Dear Senator,

You will, as usual, do as you please with regard to your political career. However if you make good on your threat to run as an Independent then the next 3 months will be full of opportunities for you to explain:

1) your wife's career and your authoring of bills that benefit her clients (such as GSK).
2) your continuing support for the doomed attempt at nation building in Iraq
3) your support for the quiet abandoning of the search for bin Laden and the real war on terror.
4) your stance on Terri Schiavo and the role of the government in people's most personal decisions
5) your ego and inability to perform as a representative of the wishes of the people of CT
6) how and why you are only the 4th Senator ever to lose a primary

I'm sure you have plenty of excuses and rationalizations for your behavior and in the infamous words of your kissing partner, I say "bring 'em on!"

Sincerely
