Rove Calls Lieberman according to George Stephanopoulos .
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 11:55 AM by Pirate Smile
No wonder he keeps reciting Rovian talking points.

Rove Calls Lieberman?
That's what ABC's George Stephanopoulos reports.

According to a close Lieberman adviser, the President's political guru, Karl Rove, has reached out to the Lieberman camp with a message straight from the Oval Office: "The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do."

We haven't been able to get independent confirmation of this just yet.

George Stephanopoulos: Can Karl help Joe?

According to a close Lieberman adviser, the President's political guru, Karl Rove, has reached out to the Lieberman camp with a message straight from the Oval Office: "The boss wants to help. Whatever we can do, we will do."

But in a year where even some Republican candidates are running away from the President on the campaign trail, does this offer have any value to Lieberman? Still smarting from all that coverage of "the kiss" at last year's State of the Union, the Lieberman camp isn't looking for an explicit endorsement. That could create more problems than it solves.

The White House might help Lieberman by putting the kibosh on any move to replace the weak Republican candidate, Alan Schlesinger, with a stronger candidate.

And it might be able to convince Schlesinger to drop out of the race and endorse Lieberman in the final week or two, when it's too late for another candidate to fill the GOP slot. A quiet White House effort to steer some money in Lieberman's direction is another possibility.

This is a tricky dance for Lieberman. He needs to figure out a way to get the benefits of Bush support -- some votes from loyal Republicans -- without turning off the independents and moderate Democrats he needs to win. The safest course may be a polite "thanks but no thanks" to the White House offer.

Rumor-mongering is a Rovian strong suit, too.

their low-bandwidth website going down on "evil Ned Lamont hackers". He reaps what he has sown.

17. What I'm saying is that it would reveal a person to be an
absolute idiot if they were to mentally bypass the necessary confirmation and go straight to believing an unconfirmed rumor like this one.

18. Stephanopoulos is reporting it. Hotline obviously doesn't have the
same source so they haven't got independent confirmation.

I don't really consider it a rumor based on those facts.

I would think Steph probably has a lot of Dem insider sources considering his past work - probably more then Hotline. That source certainly didn't do Joe any favors.

23. The source was probably outraged that it happened, and his loyalty
to the party and hatred towards Bush/Rove outweighed his loyalty to and fondness for Lieberman. Kudos to him, if that's the case.

a rumor has a 50-50 chance of being true. Bush's war was waged on outright lies. So........I guess we have a whole bunch of "absolute idiots" in Washington. I can't argue with that! ;)

That includes--but is not limited to:

--Stealing the election
--Using creative Photoshopping to suggest that your opponent molests pomeranians.
--Outing all undercover government activities in which your wife's opponent is involved.
--Starting rumors on Free Republic about your opponent's involvement in a Satanic club.
--Providing DNA evidence which proves that your opponent's children are aliens.

Let the games begin! Karl the perverted, third-class thug wants to help with a campaign!

The game plan is to keep Cheney, et al, so busy with the fires they set that they have no time for mischief--and I think that will be our best Return on Investment in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. The chaos that BushCo has created will be the downfall of the entire GOP. Sweet!

19. Rove wrote joe's talking points for debate
Or at least it seemed like it.

The odd thing with this Lieberman debacle, is like the Bush administration itself, the more it plays out, the more it tends to confirm what just a few years ago would be considered wild accusations by the far left.

In this case, it confirms that business interests will buy candidates in both parties to push their agenda. They would prefer republicans, but in states like conneticut, California, and new york, they will buy a democrat rather than give up all influence.

Somebody posted an excellent article on the DLC and the recent history of stealth takeovers of left parties by the Chamber of Commerce, not just here, but in other Western countries like Britain and New Zealand. I can't find it right now cuz I'm doing this on my phone and getting carpal thumb syndrome.

it is more a case of which way the political winds blow and covering you ass. DEM voters will no longer vote in a DINO just to have a DEM occupy that seat. This is a warning volley to DEM leaders. THAT is the message the voters are sending. All this is just PSYOP to paint the DEM's and divide us.

Rove can say all sorts of things but it doesn't mean his tactics are welcomed by Lieberman. If and when (BIG if) Lieberman accepts this "help" that's when I'll totally give up on Lieberman. I still hold out a thread of hope that he'll realize how disruptive his actions are to the Democratic Party.

UPDATED @ 3:35p ET: Dan Gerstein called from the Lieberman campaign to say the above account from another Lieberman adviser is not accurate.
