Why isn't anyone discussion BP and the Alaskan pipeline.??

I realize that Lieberman is the hot topic du jour, but I really thought I'd see talk about the corroded pipeline.

Frankly, I think the BP issues is of pretty large long-term consequences..

Do you really want an answer to that question? Today is all Lieberman/Lamont all the time!!!

I do think the BP issue will have long-term consequences. To truly change the impact of foreign oil and powerful energy companies on the U.S. economic landscape, we have to involve the oil/energy/gas companies. The environmental tipping point that we've hit this year may have changed consumer preferences enough to do some of the work. BP, who's been going through a "green" rebranding and supposed organizational shift the last few years appeared to many, including me, to be primed to take advantage of the market shift. I had hopes that a successful BP rebrand/organization would incentivize other oil/gas/energy companies to shift to a similar strategy. But, if the allegations are true, and BP has been short changing preventive maintenance at the expense of environmental harm, the model isn't working.

3. The only question is, how high a gallon of gas this year? $4, $5, $6?

Kinda depressing, any way you look at it.

4. because it's no surprise ...

oil companies are doing all they can to screw us for the sake of big profits. The price will go up. When the pipeline is back, up and running, and normal supply is restored, will the price go back to pre-shutdown levels? Nope, it will come down a wee bit, but remain at a higher level. That's their little game, plateau --> sharp price increased due to some self-proclaimed emergency --> prices lower, then stabilizes at higher plateau ... this cycle continues and the plateaus gets higher and higher.

We need to just accept that things will never get better and madly focus our efforts on sustainable energy sources.
