These items Can Still Be Purchased At Stores On The Concourses........ |
|
I just read the following: "These banned liquids and gels include, but are not limited to: beverages, shampoo, lotions, creams, toothpaste and hair gel. These items can still be purchased at stores on the concourses, however even these purchased items will not be permitted on the planes."
So how are they going to inspect this. Are we going to have to have inspections again just before we walk on the plane like after 9/11?
Why would they allow shampoo, lotions, creams, toothpaste and hair gels to be sold on concourses?
What about cosmetics, perfumes, etc?

or buy the stuff you need on your way out of the airport.
Flying would be a lot more pleasant without all the clods banging you on the head with the crap they try to stuff into the overheads.

2. In response to the original poster . . . |

I think the police and airport officials are just starting to figure out how to respond to this plot (I'm presuming, for the sake of argument, that it's real and not manufactured by Bush'n'Blair to distract their respective constituents), so the sale of items on the concourse hasn't been solved yet.
However, leaving your toothpaste at home is not going to significantly reduce the size of anyone's carry-on baggage, so the "clods" (who would happily check their bags if they had any hope of getting them back undamaged and unstolen in under an hour after their plane lands) are probably going to continue to use those overhead bins.
Would YOU check a laptop?

6. I've been taking planes longer than most folks on this board |
|
have been alive, I have always checked my bags, and I have NEVER had a bag lost or damaged.
The laptop, my medications, and a change of undies go into the backpack along with any paperwork I need like checkbooks. Everything else goes into the checked bag.

7. I've had lost luggage once... but still |
|
I check everything except what I need on the flight. The one time the luggage wasn't lost, it was just routed wrong and I got it a day late. I wouldn't really have a problem checking my laptop in a well packed suitcase either. Maybe I don't fly often enough to experience all these luggage problems, I don't know.

8. I've had my luggage lost three times in the last 10 years . . . |
|
And each time it nearly ruined the trip I was on (even though I got most of my luggage back after a few days delay). And a laptop is simply too fragile to be handled the way they handle bags, even with the sturdiest laptop carrier typically available.
Additionally, waiting for luggage is a total waste of time, and time is irreplaceable. The fact that people overpack or can't properly use an overhead bin is another matter.

Beverages purchased in the sterile area must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted onboard the aircraft. http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/threat-change.shtm

4. I'm supposed to fly in Sep & Oct..... |
|
...I'll drive (10 hours both ways) for the Sep trip, and bail on the Oct trip.
TSA is just making air travel too damn difficult.

I'd much rather take the train. Maybe I'll reconsider; then again, I already bought the tickets.
