I like Joe Lieberman - He should be the Democratic role model
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 06:57 PM by fuzzypolitics
Well, let me start a topic that no one will like :)

I like Joe Lieberman, and I think he should be the role model for the Democratic party. He follows his beliefs, has strong convictions, and embodies pretty much everything Democrats strive for. As a bonus, he's willing to take an uncomfortable and unpopular stand to protect our country.

I think it is sad to see the feeding frenzy that has descended on him since he lost the primary. He deserves better...

17. Also, Lieberman had no redeeming qualities as a Democrat.

Note the use of the past tense.

Edit: And he lies and he's selfish.

31. So it's ok to slander non-members?
So if Lieberman were a member of the forum, the parent post would be in violation of the rules?

37. From the same link
"You are permitted to criticize public figures, who are not protected under our rules against personal attacks. However, if a public figure is a member of our community, that person is protected by our rules and you are not permitted to personally attack that person. (You are permitted to offer constructive criticism of their activities as a public figure.)"

So maybe Joe should get an account, eh?

14. FREEPER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!
http://fuzzy.blog-city.com/

<<<<<<Today Governor Mitt Romney, apologized for using the term "tar baby". Apparently some so-called "Black Leaders" were outraged by the comment, although they didn't seem to be outraged enough to have their names listed in the article. It seems that these "leaders" don't want anyone using words that could have any possible negative connotation for black people -- even if that's not the common usage of the word.
These are the same types of people that lambast officials for using the term "niggardly", even though that word has nothing to do with black people -- it just sounds similar to one they don't like.

So, when are these esteemed black leaders going to protest the manufacture of Oreo cookies? As I recall, calling a black person an oreo is quite derogatory - black on the outside and white on the inside. The modern version of an Uncle Tom...

So where's the outrage for these insensitive, derogatory cookies?>>>>>>>>

Expect a lot of this stuff over the next few months.

He cares about himself. You know how he hedged his bets in 2000, right? You'll have to explain how that maneuver put his country before his party. In reality, Joe only cares about Joe.

But you aren't really looking to discuss, right? Just trolling?

11. Problem is, he's not a Democrat any more.
Joe has become a role model for whiny sore losers who, when voters in their own party decide they'd rather elect someone else, form their own party in order to run against the person representing the will of the majority of the voters.

12. As a liberal republican, he's not so bad . . .
But he has done the country a great disservice as a Bush enabler. When you're facing the magnitude of evil and incompetence represented by the republican party today, bipartisanship is not always a virtue. Compromise is a wonderful goal, but you can't compromise with wickedness, deceit, and hypocrisy.

I think he's reasonably sincere, but absolutely dead wrong on key issues. And for that reason needs to be replaced.

His decision to run as an independent also sullies his character and sullies much of what he's done over his career.

I firmly disagree.

When the voters said no to him, he switched parties

He lied when he said he wouldn't stay in the Senate for 18 years.

He voted for the bankruptsy bill.

He is pro-war

backed the Terri Schiavo mess

his support for allowing Catholic hospitals to refuse emergency contraceptive treatment for rape victims

There's more, like his smarmy attitude... but that's enough, and that's why he's the Loserman

30. First off...
Welcome to DU. Always glad to see new members.

Second, I admire anyone's ability to take an unpopular view.

Third, I don't like Lieberman because he was the tool that the Republicans and media used to denigrate the Democratic Party. I can't count the number of times that Liebermen was on TV espousing some viewpoint that differed from the majority of the Party and at the bottom of the screen was the little box:
"Divided Democrats." "Democrats Disorganized." etc.
You never see other Democratic Senators doing that. He's been in politics too long for it to be ignorance or inexperience. I just don't think he cared what the Democrats thought. It became about Joe (IMO).

Fourth, I don't hate Liebermen. But, we as a Party can do better and I think we have in Lamont.

Thanks :) I like your approach. You don't have to agree with him -- in fact, no Democrat is required to agree or even like Joe Lieberman.

But the level of uncivility, hostility and downright nastiness directed to Joe is unbecoming of civilized people...

35. Let me see if I've got this right.
He voted for the bankruptcy bill that helps credit card companies and hurts American citizens. He votes for the government to delve into a personal and private family tragedy to score points with Evangelical wingnuts. He helps make the Supreme Court the most radical right court in the history of this country. he votes for an energy policy that gives billions to oil companies that are making record profits on the backs of every American. He lambasts Clinton over a blow-job. And has a passion to swap spit with G.W.B. - Yep you are right - he is one helluva Democrat - NOT!

P.S. Just to name a few

Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 07:13 PM by welshTerrier2
how can you make the statement that Lieberman embodies "pretty much everything Democrats strive for"? do we strive for more war? do we strive for an out-of-control military-industrial complex? do we strive for the bush-cheney energy bill that sold out America to Big Oil? do we strive to have our candidates switch parties when they're rejected by the voters? do we strive to have our elected reps go along with an extremist neocon agenda in the name of "bi-partisanship"?

Lieberman might very well possess some of the positive character traits you cited ... that does NOT come within in a million miles of condoning his hideous conduct and his hideous voting record ... he empowered, appeased and coddled the neocon administration that has threatened the entire globe with endless war ...

sometimes you need to look beyond the People Magazine editorials and understand the policies ...
