My letter to Senator Lieberman
Dear Senator Lieberman:

I have respect for you and for your commitment to the Democratic Party, I think that you have always done your best to carry out your duties in Washington, DC. I am asking you to leave the race for the Senate now. You have lost the primary, wise or not; the people of your state have spoken. What you are doing now is hurting the party and the democrats of your state. I believe that you have a lot of love for both and I know that you want what is best for them.

These are evil times and men w/o conscience have used tragedies to take advantage of the American people. They are trying to destroy our constitution, checks and balances, the right to privacy and even the right to a fair trial. I know that your heart does not serve these people but your actions now as an independent will help strengthen their hold on our country. Please do what is right for our country and leave this race.

1. My theories are getting tiresome but
since nobody ever responds, I feel the need to repeat them. Joe will only abandon his "quest" when he (or Hadassah) realizes that he has become a joke. What we need to do is bombard him and his allies with everything in the media that makes him look like a fool. Everything else, especially stuff that sounds "serious," simply hardens his resolve.

6. Joe's hopeless.
I doubt that either Joe or Hadassah will ever see that he has become a joke. It seems to me, out here on the prairie, that ole Joe's gotten drunk on his power and privilege and is in serious denial. Hadassah, I'm sure, is his primary enabler. Fools rarely ever see their own foolishness. The way to finish him is to beat him. Thanks for knocking him to the canvas. In November, knock him out and that will finish him off. I'll be cheering y'all on from Oklahoma. Go Connecticut!

7. well, no politicians like negative letters

they may not read, let their staffers handle them, but they do count them. The polticians
all play the numbers game, it's their life. I think that the next few weeks could be critical,
we may have a chance to prevent a long and damaging democratic intra-party fight.

10. That would require an ounce of reflectiveness
which he has not demonstrated possessing.

According to John Dean's profiles of Authoritarians, their heightened and extreme sense of self-righteousness (and sureness in their rightness) overwhelms the ability of awareness that their behavior is out of line with their avowed beliefs of high-road morality and integrity.

We could send article after article to the Lieberman's, and I still do not think that the Senator would be able to "see" himself as a joke.

2. I'll be interested to know how that works for you!

I have contacted the Senator many times... I've snail-mailed him. I've faxed him. I've called his offices. I've e-mailed him. I have called and written in a respectful and calm tone, and I feel I've always been fair and honest with him. Never once have I received a response.

Personally, I don't think he gives a rat's *ss what any of us think. That's just my opinion.

If you receive and answer, I hope you'll share it -- either publicly or privately. I'd love to know what he says.

TC

8. You never got an email stating his position...
...on an issue you emailed him about?

9. Hey, that can't be true.
I got one once. It started out something like "As you know, an organization has used your name on some left wing petition." That's not exactly what it said but you get the idea. I had called his office to find out his position on something and while I might have been prompted to do it by a left wing wacko (I, in fact, am a left wing wacko)I just don't recall what it was about. Having taken the trouble to make the call, I was offended by his opening sentence.

12. I never received a response... I swear to you, not one.
I thought that was really telling. I will concede that most of my contacts were during the last primaries, so heis office might not have been responding then, but you'd think if ever there was a time to respond -- even if you don't agree with the contact -- it would be during an election.

3. Here's what I'd write:
Dear Senator Lieberman:

I'm glad you lost. You have thrown away everything that Democrats hold dear in favor of gaining political clout and advantage.

You have no right to serve in the Senate, and the people were right to deny you in the primary. You should now spend the rest of your life as a private citizen, defrocked of any power, riddled with shame.

Here's hoping that no biographer is ever kind enough to you or blind enough to lie.

5. well, I think that is too harsh
I know he has been out of control lately, but he has a long record in the Senate, much of
which is commendable.
