2. They need to say something specific and creative about how
to solve our Iraq problems.

They need to try again.

4. while i agree that it is not at all romantic or exciting,
i really care about these issues. i wish that the rest of the country did also.
seriously, it needs some real selling. otherwise, the dems will lose again.
perhaps if they coupled this with scathing criticisms of the repug performance?
divide the attacks into domestic performance and foreign policy.
find the means to penetrate every right wing strong hold, make the fundies doubt.
give hope to the poor. of course you will need to be able to follow through.

10. Sharpen the language . . .
Language is what people are going to respond to anyway.

Rewrite to have a muscular topic sentence, not the mushy grab-bag of thoughts displayed here (some of the wording from the child pages is punchier).

Keep the positive "uplifted" tone, but pair every Dem postive with an applicable 'Lican negative (there's NO shortage) -- this is much like you've said above.

"Together we can do better" is flaccid, at best. Where's the sense of urgency? Is there a single DUer who doesn't think that 'Lican control of our government is the most serious crisis this country's faced since WWII? Something like "Restoring America's Honor -- Rebuilding America's Strength" is more what we should be saying.

I know they have consultants to frame these things for maximum effect, but frankly, these messages have been Osterized to the point where they have no power. If it weren't sexist, I'd call the authors of this message "balless wonders."

But I think you can get my drift.

5. ALL RIGHT!!
If we just let Neil Young interpret them...

Honest Leadership & Open Government: We will end the Republican culture of corruption and restore a government as good as the people it serves, starting with real ethics reform.

DON'T NEED NO MORE LIES! DON'T NEED NO MORE LIES!

Real Security: We will protect Americans at home and lead the world by telling the truth to our troops, our citizens and our allies.

LET'S IMPEACH THE PRESIDENT FOR LYING US INTO WAR!

Energy Independence: We will create a cleaner, greener and stronger America...

We live in the garden of Eden, yeah. Don't know why we wanna tear the whole thing to the ground.
And we've got to get ourselves, Back to the garden.

Economic Prosperity & Educational Excellence: We will create jobs that stay in America and restore opportunity for all Americans...

What if al-Qaeda blew up the levees? / Would New Orleans have been safer that way?

Healthcare System that Works for Everyone: We will join 36 other industrialized nations in making sure everyone has access to affordable health care...

"Thank God he's cracking down on steroids/Since he sold his old baseball team/There's a lot of people looking at big trouble/But of course our president is clean."

Retirement Security. We will ensure that a retirement with dignity is the right and expectation of every single American...

Old man take a look at my life, I'm a lot like you. I need someone to love me, the whole day through.

8. That's exactly right
Every candidate can come up with their own way to personalize these messages, but these are 6 winners.

The Dems have been giving the thugs a free ride way too long. That all ends in 2006.

6. I'm more interested in their 50 state plan, the Dem Reunions
and the 100 actions in 100 days they've been posting.

7. Outstanding
I realize that this particular presentation is on the understated side. That's OK. They have the right issues and the right positions on the issues. They have 90 days to train every Democrat to repeat those 6 issues every day, every time there is a microphone, a camera, or an audience within a mile.

Don't be put off by the lack of emotion present in this list. By the time November comes around, some Dems will be reciting the fire and brimstone version of these 6 issues.

This is long overdue. We should all get behind this. God, how long I've waited for a party that would take forward a consistent set of messages?

9. As a statement of intent...
...it lacks detail. It points out some objectives but does not even mention the approach to be taken.

Thus "healthcare" might or might not be the DLC/GOP concept of an alliance between pharma, AMA and insurance.

What a missed opportunity - it reads like the minutes of a committee meeting. With an agenda like that how can the DNC compete against the GOP? The cons have an entire thinktank/PR firm machine ready to push the GOP agenda and to undermine the DNC's.

If the DNC is to have any hope it needs to push the concept of change and it needs to do it with ringing, exciting and populist rhetoric.

Compare to the past: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/showplatforms.php?platindex=D1972 (or any other year)

11. Sounds Like The same stale crap ...
I loved the economic security line ... so innovative. No wait, I meant, same bullsh*t I have been hearing for 20 years.
*Get a loan to get a degree and then spend a lifetime figuring out how to pay for it when all the jobs are offshored-visa filled.
People are probably better off with BushCo scrapping the loans. Why not save the time and effort since you got nothing waiting anyhow. Maybe they could start vocational training in useful programs like dish washing and janitorial services.
This 6 points tells me that they have zippo intention of altering the status quo. They better chnage that tune if they intend to win.

12. In order to implement these points, they have to control Congress...
to control Congress they have to be elected. You cannot govern if you cannot win.

I want to know this "plan" is being backed up by Democrats with guts and determination to WIN. I want to know they take Election Reform seriously. I want to know their balls, their guts and their MOUTHS are all engaged and ready to rumble. I want to know that they will not concede at the drop of a hat, when the results of an election are so obviously stolen. I want to know they are not going to hire a bunch of cynical K-Street hacks to advise and run their campaigns. I want to see them drop-kick the DLC through the goalpost of life, for once and for all. I want to know they will look us in the eyes and tell us the TRUTH, no matter what. I want to know that they think Peace is more important than war -- and diplomacy is far more preferable a tactic than fear-mongering.

Where are their hearts? Their minds? Their BALLS??????? Tell me they are all equally engaged and I'll be onboard. Otherwise... This is all a day late and a dollar short.

It's time to SHOW US what's behind this "plan" first, or it might as well be more of the same pipe-dreams.

13. I agree it is all right
But we need to make it sound more forceful. We need to ignite the youth to want to come out & vote for it. People like our favorite talk show hosts do not just tell it. They scream it over the air. Instill it in peoples minds. I am not saying lie like they do. Use words that brings out the passion in people to want change.
