MARY LYON FROM THE LEFT: This Revolution Will NOT Be Terrorized
by Mary Lyon -- World News Trust

The line actually was "the revolution will not be televised" -- a compelling, rhythmic rant from 1974 by African American musician/poet/agitator Gil Scott-Heron. Hopefully, he'll forgive me for adjusting the wording just a little. This revolution will NOT be terrorized.

I REFUSE to be afraid. It just goes on and on and on -- terror plots, couple of dozen arrests -- one of those arrestees, as of this writing, already released.

I just REFUSE to be afraid. I have a hard time even believing this is completely on the level, considering who's making hay (or trying to) with it at the moment. But then again, the Bush administration's habit of crying wolf about another dreaded terrorist attack -- much of it later proven to be so much bushwah -- had rendered me just a little bit too jaundiced. So jaundiced that, when I hear of events like the huge alleged terror plot being busted in Britain, my first reaction is one of suspicion. I can't help but be skeptical that maybe this is just being made up -- to scare us into submission again.

Am I being paranoid after all? Well, look at the timing of this. It wiped all the Connecticut Democratic primary postmortems off the map, at just the time when Democrats themselves were showing new strength and guts. They'd just given "the best Democratic friend the republi-CONS ever had" the heave-ho, denying him shoo-in status as a fourth-term returnee to the Senate. The voters preferred Ned Lamont, who built his successful campaign on Joe Lieberman's epoxy-like embrace of all things Bush and GOP, especially of the war. It was a signal. A shot across the bow. A sign that a giant had been awakened, and that Democrats were fighting back -- the dealer having dealt us aces, and the public opinion pollsters adding all kings. And -- hmmm... all of a sudden, the afterglow is rudely interrupted by screams of "TERROR!" "TERROR!" "TERROR!" Hmmm indeed. Sorry, that's just a little too convenient for me.

bullshit detector.

There've been times in my life, juajen, when something's going wrong and what starts to happen is as though there's this little old-fashioned mailbox in the back of my head. And it has one of those little spring-loaded red flags that keeps popping up. And when you try to push it back down again, BOING! Up it pops, again. For the last almost six years, I've had this little red flag just going BOING! BOING! BOING! ALL the blinkin' time! Sometimes there isn't even any BOING! Sometimes the little red flag just stays up, sometimes jostling back and forth, but unavoidably UP.

Interesting how Olbermann tonight (Monday eve) had this list of TEN incidents that were just a little too pat, just a little too convenient, just a little too fishy. It just keeps happening. And that little red flag just won't stay down.

PS - thanks for the kick! :hi:

14.  sometimes a cigar is just a cigar
the threat IS constant(always was). How you react to it is where reputations are made and cemented in the minds of the public. Be careful not to veer onto black helicopter land.

15. Less and less people
believe these terror scares because they have been repeatedly lied to about everything.

B*sh is on 33% approval and Blair on 23%. The people who are sceptical are in the majority.

And "black helicopters" are so 90s. Since then we've had real conspiracies revealed like Abu Ghraib, Plamegate, Abramoffgate, NSAgate plus no WMD in Iraq.

And as for the threat being real, yes that's true but at the very least it's actively manipulated for political gain, at the very worst it's facilitated.

21. Good one.
And it's also unfortunate that these manipulations even take us to the place where we look at such events as the alleged British terror plot - and immediately go to Skeptic-land.

17. The most powerful thing each and every American
who wishes to release the nation from the right-wing/corporate stranglehold currently gripping us is this:

REFUSE TO BE AFRAID.

Without fear, they have no hold on us.

20. Remember what FDR advised: that the only thing we have to fear is
fear itself. MAN! Was he prescient or what???
