Poll question: Should Lamont treat Schlessinger as though he were his only opponent? |
|
Edited on Mon Aug-14-06 11:08 PM by norml
and never mention Lieberman by name?
I think it would be not only funny, but effective to have Lamont refer to Alan Schlessinger in every speech as "his worthy opponent" while never mentioning Lieberman by name.

1. Only if he wants to lose! |
|
If he does that, he is in for a big shock! Lieberman is getting lots of donations according to MSNBC.

2. Ideally a candidate should never refer to their true opponent by name. |
|
It only empowers the opponent.
In this case plugging the guy with the R has only upside, cause in this case he's the spoiler.
Am I the only one who's ever studied this kind of thing?

I worked on my first political campaign in 1968 and have a degree in Political Science.
Let's agree to disagree.

not Political Science.
I don't think you fully understand the concept that I'm trying to get across, and I've yet to see your reasoning for rejecting it.
Congratulations on having worked so hard on so much for so long.
I'm more of the art major type myself, though I did work on my first campaign in 72.

How so?
What downside is there in boosting Alan Schlessinger's name recognition, or in decrying how the GOP has betrayed him?
I'm not saying we should never refer to the guy who lost his primary, just treat him as though he was beneath mentioning by name.

Treat LIEberman as the Republicon candidate he is. How many Republicons are supporting Schlessinger?

9. No. Schlessinger is a completely marginal candidate. |
|
Even his own party is ignoring him. The real contest is between Lamont and Lieberman. That can't just be ignored away, as much as we may like to.

10. Will Schlessinger even be eligible to participate in the debates? |
|
I don't know how things work in CT, but in the presidential debates you have to be polling at 15% or higher to take part in them.
A recent poll showed him at 6%.
I can't imagine he'll stay in this race to the end, in the past week he has been snubbed by the RNC chairman and his own GOP president.
