I Defaced a "George Allen for Senate "Sign |
|
There was a sign prominantly displayed at the entrance to the local Walmart.I taped the name Felix in between the first and last names.Wish I had my kid's camera to take a pic; I wonder how long it will stay up?

1. Defacing campaign signs is not particularly cool. |
|
And depending on what you do and where you live, I think it can be illegal.
Just sayin.

3. Agreed! But is it defacing it to add his real middle name? |

I remember when Felix ran against Chuck Robb, and all of his supporters came through near my neighborhood the night before the election and knocked down all of Robb's campaign signs. That was definitely not cool, but there is no honor among thieves.

18. not only is it illegal |
|
but it is also a violation of federal law
imo, this is an absolutely reprehensible thing.
the whole point of the 1st amendment is that you counter "bad speech" with "good speech"
you do not deface the public speech of others, any more than you are allowed to put duct tape over the mouth of a person you disagree with
it's also kind of amazing you would admit to this crime on the internet. but hubris often outweighs rational self-interest
i think allen is a racist twit btw. but that's irrelevant
your behavior was criminal, but even worse it was an infantile anti-american act. yes, violating the free speech rights of others, and criminally interfering with political speech is about as anti-american as you can get

Letting people engage in the political process is supposed to be what we are all about.

...time to play as dirty as the sleazemeisters themselves. Until all the sensitive, "play fair" types realize that the other side will never "play fair," and that we need to beat them at their own game, we're in trouble.

9. Allen's Real Infraction |
|
-----It's hard to believe that George Allen actually knew the potential meaning or connotation of his little "macaca" remark, but that is not what's really annoying about the remark. Rather, it was the dismissive way in which he tossed it out,... even knowing the young man's actual name at the time. Furthermore, George Allen is such a reprobate individual in so many ways, it is difficult to believe that he continues to lead a candidate like Webb,... As a Virginian, I admit that some bizarre things can happen here,... but I'd figured that Webb, with his republican roots and military background, would easily cruise by Allen. What's up with this?

14. I believe George Felix Allen did know the meaning... |
|
and connotation of the remark. Go back and look at the context in which he used it. "Let's welcome Macaca to America". Does that sound like a commentary on his hair? He got a big laugh out of his audience, which is what he was going for.
As for Webb, Allen at this point has much more resources and name recognition, but I believe the race will tighten over the next couple of months. Allen still has a strong base in many parts of the state, but Webb will easily carry Northern Virginia, and that could well be a tipping point, as it was for Tim Kaine.

But I really don't get the Felix as an insult thing. Can you explain that? I see it all over the Webb blog.

Let's not try to fight this the way the republicans would. This kind of stuff sounds like something Hannity, Rush or Savage would advocate.

And I'm willing to pull up one George's signs even if no one were running against him. I just can't stand the man, never could.
