GOPers Help Short-Handed Green Partiers with Signature Challenge
By Paul Kiel - August 18, 2006, 11:26 AM

It's a heartwarming image -- Greens and Republicans working side by side.

Short of hands to help review thousands of contested signatures as part of the ongoing court battle between Democrats and Green Senate candidate Carl Romanelli, the Pennsylvania Green Party is getting some help from volunteers from Sen. Rick Santorum's (R-PA) campaign.

To resolve Democrats' charges that most of the Greens' 100,000 signatures are invalid, a judge ordered that volunteers from both parties work side by side to establish whether they could agree on the validity of the signatures. The Department of State set up 9 computer terminals for the effort; at each station, a Democratic volunteer was to be paired with a Green volunteer. The effort is expected to take weeks.

But earlier this week, the Greens found themselves short of volunteers. So Republicans have arrived to help fill the gap. It's only natural: since GOP supporters paid for the Green signature drive, and Santorum volunteers helped collect the signatures, they have a vested interest in seeing this through to the end.

at the computer terminals, checking names.

7. Here goes:
1. The Santorum campaign paid for, and provided the volunteers to collect signatures, to put Carl Romanelli on the ballot for the U.S. Senate campaign in Pennsylvania against Bob Casey, Jr.

2. The Greens don't have the volunteer help they need, so Santorum's folks are filling in the gaps. The Dems are working in concert with what few Green Party people there are and, I assume, the people that Santorum's campaign (and its supporters, such as Greg Rothman) sent over to the PA Department of State.

8. Yep
Evidently the Green Party will go to any and all lengths to antagonize and alienate people who may well have supported them in certain situations and races. Based upon the Green Party behavior since the 2000 election I will never, never vote for any of their candidates under any circumstances. They seem to believe that the end justifies the means and that getting a vote for their party is all that counts.

its one thing to accept republican money but it is sure another thing for them to have rethugs campaigning for them. Yep the greens showed there true colors and is definitely not for the left.

10. Playing Devil's Advocate on this one,
isn't it slightly possible that Greens in PA see the same kind of bullshit most Dems see out of this entire Romanelli BS and decide to give this man the Bird and not help him? Then again, it's also equally possibly most Greens in PA don't give a damn about this manner which would be yet another stinging embarassment to a Party that barely feels it. As for Republicans helping them out, it shows again the naivite of this party as a whole in regards to its operation. That naivite is going to kill
my Party sooner rather than later if something doesn't change drastically. Personally, I still wholeheartedly believe the 3rd Circuit's gonna side with the Dems challenge of these signatures and get him off the ballot. By the way, I am a proud Lefty Green who gives more of a shit about getting this country out of Hell than sticking it to the system. Any Green who really believes that is a traitor to the Party and should be disposed with ASAP like fresh cat crap from the catbox. First out of Hell, then rebuild the system and finally get IRV nationwide.

11. The Green party is a stigma on American politics
They have proven that time & time again. It will die a slow death as it should.
