Sen Grassley(R) - Dems have better chance w/Edwards
http://www.hillnews.com/under_dome/020404.aspx

An election forecast: We’ll get bin Laden

Sen. Grassley sees terrorist nabbed by Nov. 2 vote

... Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is convinced the U.S. will track down the elusive mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks before November.

“Obviously, he’ll be caught between now and the election,” Grassley said Monday when asked if he’s disappointed that Osama bin Laden hasn’t been killed or captured.

...snip...

Although President Bush’s re-election prospects would no doubt be boosted if bin Laden is found, Grassley said Democrats may have a better chance if Sen. John Edwards (N.C.) wins his party’s presidential nomination rather than the current front-runner, Sen. John Kerry (Mass.).

“ I would say that Senator Kerry is more of a threat than Dean but less of a threat than Senator Edwards” because of the latter’s strength in the South, he said.

I know, it's just the RNC playing games, becaus they want to trick us into voting for Edwards. But would somebody be so honest about finding Osama in the same breath as saying Edwards is the Dems best chance? I don't believe it.

1. He is my senator. Don't trust this fucker.
He used to cozy up to white supremacist Randy Weaver after his "government created" tragedy.

2. I like Edwards
but I don't really put much stock in Grassley's opinion. The way things are going for Bush I think several of the Dem candidates are quite electable.

3. I wonder if Bush will get the bump he wants when we capture
OBL. That's because a lot of his supporters will say, "I thought we already caught him in a spidey hole."

Bush and Rove may regret having made OBL and Saddam appear to be one man.

5. Ok tinfoil hats on here is my prediction without any
evidence at all
Osama about late march or Early April, after the democratic nominee is wrapped up. 30 point bounce from the sheeple
puppet government set up in Iraq at end of jun his popularity will have dropped down 20 pts this will bump him up 15 to 20 pts with his great success in war.
Chemical weapons "found" after being stashed by the CIA around September. 20 point bounce will take him through election.
The sheeple will buy it all

6. Why is this a good thing?
1. The Republican is trying to lie about who has the best shot.
2. If you want to use Republicans as endorsements, go ahead!

9. Perhaps he's trying to encourage republicans: 'don't worry. It looks like
we're going to run against someone other than the one with the best shot to win."

It so happens that lots of Republicans close to the center love Edwards because he seems like a decent guy. Grassley may also be trying to appeal to them -- he's telling them that he understands what they see.

7. Does anyone find this choice of words REALLY odd?
“Obviously, he’ll be caught between now and the election.”

Why wouldn't he say something like, "Obviously, we're doing everything possible to find OBL, and the moment we do will be a great day for the US."

It's as if the Rovians all sat around a conference table and said, "our pollsters show that the optimal time from for parading a captured OBL on national TV will be between the weeks of X and Y. So let's plan for that, shall we?"

10. It's the Bush Family way.
Poppy got the Ayatollah to hold the hostages to prevent an "October Surprise" in 1980. Carter's popularity plummeted as the election neared. Pruneface Reagan gets in the White House. A couple of months later, Bush family friend Hinckley is set up as the new patsy. Like Maxwell Smart would say: "Missed him by THAT much."

8. Didn't some Senator predict we'd get saddam a few days before we did?
Some repuke Senator as I remember, said we'd have saddam in x amount of time. When asked if he knew something "we" didn't know, he said simply, "yes."

Does anybody else remember that?

Personally, as far as Edwards goes, the mere fact that this guy is saying Edwards would be the toughest puts another big X on Edwards for me, the first being his continued support for invading Iraq.
