GOP: Ready to 'benefit' from terror (Chicago Tribune newsblog)
This was a fun find, and wondering why the GOP cares about what John Edwards has to say (wink, wink)? Be sure to click on the link to visit the rest of the memo that went out to all their campaigns last week, so we can enjoy listening to all the little repuggies and pundits who love them repeat ad nauseum :hi:

GOP: Ready to 'benefit' from terror

For an idea of how the Republican Party will approach the averted terrorist assault on trans-Atlantic airliners this week, how that might play into the fall election cycle in the United States, the depth of research that Republicans are ready to bring to bear on their races and the attacks that the GOP plans on its "cut-and-run'' opposition n the Democratic Party, the best place to go is the Republican Party.

Here's a memo circulated by the National Republican Congressional Committee today. Read and see:

Re: Vigilance in the Global War on Terror

Date: August 11, 2006

__________________________________________________________________________

Recent events have reminded us that we continue to operate in a pivotal phase in the Global War on Terror.

In the days to come, you should move to question your opponent's commitment to the defeat of terror, and in turn, create a definitive contrast on the issue.

You will certainly benefit from bringing into stark focus the cut-and-run, surrender message that Democrats coast to coast are currently -- and foolishly -- embracing.

To aid you in this effort, we are including three key votes related to the War on Terror as well as materials provided by the RNC.

As always, please feel free to contact the NRCC Communications Division at (202) 479-7070 if you have any questions.

* * *

Key Votes

I. Creation of the Department of Homeland Security (HR 5005, Vote 367 , 7/26/02)

120 Democrats voted against the creation of the Department of Homeland Security -- the department responsible for coordinating the response to national security threats.

II. Original passage of the USA PATRIOT Act (HR 3162, Vote 398 , 10/24/01)

62 House Democrats voted against original passage of the USA PATRIOT Act, which gives law enforcement the necessary tools to vanquish the terrorist element.

III. Reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act (HR 3199, Vote 627 , 12/14/05)

155 House Democrats voted against reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act.

THE REAL DEM AGENDA: CUT-AND-RUN IN WAR ON TERROR

3. Exactly....we should start a drinking game
everytime we hear a GOP talking point that matches the memo, we take a shot...wait...better be Gatorade, or we'll be too wasted to care

Seriously, I know the Dems do this too, but their memo's lean towards correcting propaganda !

Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 01:33 PM by ixion
they hadn't bought plane tickets, and in fact most didn't even have passports, and it was an assault? I think that's a stretch.

4. ..and why most of the "suspects" have been released?
Last I heard, the UK was pressured by the US to make this investigation public...before they could get to the plane ticket purchases? And it really pi**es me off, the MSM have dropped that little goody in favor of 24/7 "pediophile" coverage...arggghhhhh!

Who knows, maybe they were just playing the Muslim version of Dungeons and Dragons?

6. Cheney told Pentagon what to expect last summer:
At the time, no one thought the Bushies were this stupid given the quagmire in Iraq. Since then, Sy Hersh has proven key elements of this with the exception of the trigger--the terrorist attack.

I hope there are enough people in the CIA and Pentagon who put loyalty to their country ahead of loyalty to Cheney and the Tard King. That could be likely given that the Bushies have missed no opportunity to humiliate and betray both.

KEY EXCERPTS:

The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option.

As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States.

Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing--that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack--but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections.

8. MOST significant: How the word "benefit" is in quotes.
VERY significant. Already blunts and dilutes the message the GOP is trying desperately to push.

EXCELLENT, as a matter of fact! That's what we want, and what will "benefit" us, if you will - the coverage that obviously or subtly cast a jaundiced eye on the stated "fact." A key word that appears in quotation marks is flagged as being not necessarily straightforward. This is GREAT!!!

11. The Trib definitely "gets" it :)
Too bad the rest of the MSM doesn't question the motives behind GOP politics, especially now that the UK Terror plot is falling apart.
