Joe L. & Bernie Sanders: What's the difference? |
|
I hope all of you adamant Lieberman haters (that live in Vermont) will write in a DEMOCRAT instead of non-Democrat Bernie Sanders! And everyone else should be against Sanders as well, of course. He's an admitted Socialist - at least Lieberman is still a registered Democrat!
...I'm sure you all will...

Sanders actually makes sense. Lieberman is all about himself and you will likely be gone shortly. Have a nice life.

5. Because there is basically no Dem opponent |
|
The DSCC early on decided to support Sanders. And unlike Lieberman, Sanders rarely betrays the progressive base.
I believe there may technically be a Dem or two on the ballot, but I've read that their party allegiance is spurrious at best.

10. Correct me if I am wrong |

I read that Sanders is running as a Democrat to prevent another Democratic challenger but will change when elected.

14. Running as an independent |
|
however he will caucas with the Democrats once elected (as he did in the House). IMO he's one of our best hopes for real progressive change in the Senate.

8. Oh, BIIIIG difference! |
|
Bernie Sanders has been a third-party member since 1971. Although he caucuses with the Democrats, he has never in his entire career claimed to be one. He has managed to get himself elected as a Socialist, which would suggest that his constituents are entirely OK with that. But, most importantly, Sanders didn't ever claim to be a member of a certain party and then, when the voters in that party rejected him in the primary, conveniently abandon the party of which he had claimed to be a member and run against the candidate the voters of his party preferred. And why should VT voters write in a Democrat if they are satsified with Sanders' representation? Unlike Phony Joe, Sanders has always been honest about his party affiliation and his ideology; he's an anti-war Socialist who has never pretended to be anything he's not.

13. Sanders a Democrat, at least until primary |
|
U.S. Rep. Bernard Sanders, an Independent, is running in the Democratic primary this fall in his bid to be the state's next senator, where, according to filings due Monday in the Secretary of State's Office, he will face four other lesser-known members of the party.
But Sanders has vowed not to accept the Democratic nomination if, as expected, he wins it. http://www.timesargus.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060718/NEWS/607180326/1003/NEWS02

When Bernie becomes bush's mouth piece, I'll start advocating Dems turn away from him. Until then, it's bye bye Joey and hugs for Bernie.

The difference is that Lieberman lost in the primary. He is running as a third party candidate without the endorsement of our party. Bernie Sanders is the liberal candidate from VT, and has been endorsed by the Democratic party as "our candidate" for senate.
